i’m starting to understand the magic system of heisterella (note to self: we do need an actual title at some point) and it’s going to be based around duality which works well considering almost all my magic will exist in physical objects that have been enchanted and thus, it’s very common for magic items to be made in pairs. *cough like shoes cough*
before the story begins, a huge accident involving the court magician and the queen leaves the young prince motherless. magic was outlawed in the kingdom as a result with all the enchanted items either smashed by order of the king or illegally smuggled out/secreted away. most of those items were made by the court magician herself who also disappeared in the accident. but unbeknownst to the public, the king kept a very powerful magic item for himself, one he couldn’t yet use. and now he’s had some kind of breakthrough which he plans to announce at a big celebration ball. my fairy godmother character (not actually a fairy or a godmother) wants to steal it before he has the chance to do anything with it, and she’s gathered as many of those remaining magic items that she could to pull the whole thing off.
the budget in lunette’s household is getting tight, and servants are being laid off left and right as lunette’s chores increase ten-fold. her stepsister is allowed to have a proper coming out to society, sapping much of the budget towards fancy new dresses and lessons. meanwhile, lunette is expected to do the shopping with less than ever to get by, so she starts finding new ways to support the family: picking pockets, sneaking vegetables out of gardens or food stalls in the market, whatever it takes because at this point she’d rather risk the wrath of the town guard than her stepmom’s punishments.
and why is it getting tight? because the family business has been, well, bad. really bad. lunette’s dad has been conducting it from abroad to try to find new clients and save their dire straights while her stepmother handles the financial side at home. lunette would prefer to travel with her dad—only her stepmom keeps his location info to herself in order to keep lunette from running off to join him and losing her cheapest servant. the stepmother has decided to take things into her own hands expanding into…less legal territory. smuggling magical items is risky, but it’s the best option she has until she can get her daughter married off to someone with real money.
at some point i’m gonna need to worry about spoilers on this story, but everything is still so nebulous that i’ve decided not to care yet because i figured out what my glass slippers do!!! they can walk on air. all my magic is visually glass-themed, so this would look like shiny little fractal-y platforms sparkling in midair. great for dancing without tripping, sneaking without extra noise, AND jumping out windows for a quick getaway!! :D i’m so excited about the visuals i have in mind for this.

what if instead of finishing any stories i just keep coming up with more fairytale retellings? anyway, lesbian beauty and the beast is building itself in my mind, and in this version beauty gets pulled into the curse too so the clock is ticking not only for everyone else but also for her.
okay so. i figured out the ending of this which was much more straightforward than heisterella has been. the beginning/pre-story has some kinks to work out, but i think i managed to find some fun twists on an otherwise pretty straightforward story. beast learns she’s not unlovable while she and belle both learn to love others. idk sounds cute.

for some reason it took me approx. 2 hundred years to edit these photos of my 2nd star to the right dress taken at dragoncon but here they are! this dress was inspired by pixie dust, tinker bell, and traveling to neverland! ✨✨✨🌈
the beading on the central star and rainbow was done by hand, as was all the gathering on the front and back of the dress. the train is a separate piece which slips into the lace-up back so it can be removed in crowded spaces. this design originally debuted on the sdcc 2022 her universe fashion show runway and also includes a matching night sky coat.
this design was something of a culmination for me!! i’d always wanted to submit a tinker bell look to the fashion show because, well, *points at username* it just fits, and it kind of feels right for my fourth year submitting since this might be my last time. i’ve had four looks representing 4 things that are very close to my heart, and my design aesthetic has evolved and grown a lot during all that time.
from left to right: 2017 This Was a Triumph inspired by the Portal series, 2018 Style on Space Mountain inspired by the attraction of the same name, 2021 Like Starlight inspired by Howl’s Moving Castle, and 2022 2nd Star to the Right inspired by Peter Pan
@casualjster yes, i do have a few coat pics tho not from this shoot since it was a bit hot to lug it around downtown atlanta. here’s some pics from the stage before and after the coat:
it was based on a cocoon coat pattern and modified to slip off easily and be able to hold the bulk of my train. the train took several iterations specifically because i had to find the right combo to be able to squish down to fit under the coat and also have enough volume to spring forth and look dramatic twirling on the runway. which i think it pulled off pretty well.
the whole thing rolls up to kind of squish under my arm. i practiced taking the coat off and tossing it off the stage so many times and really only just started to get the hang of it by showtime. 🙈 full disclosure: i did not bead the stars on the coat. i just bought a couple appliques for that since it wasn’t going to be on stage for very long and because i only had about 2 and a half months from finding out i got into the show to traveling to california to make the whole thing.
the “wings” started out as fully boned with wire but i quickly realized that stuck out too much under the coat, so i switched to using zip ties which had the proper flexibility to bend down while also having the sturdiness to spring up again. all the zip ties are connected to a wire loop that sits into the back of the dress similar to the Fancy Fairy wings i use for my actual Tinker Bell cosplay.
and here are my official pre-runway shots from the show by Mark Edwards! the pale blue choker with the big bow is a nod to tink’s oft-forgotten hair bow as well as tying it to the wendy-blue satin on the coat’s lining.
