ERGO Travel Insurance has shown a complete lack of compassion, fairness, and common sense.
My cancellation claim was rejected after my 18-month-old daughter became seriously ill just hours before an international flight. She had a high fever and persistent vomiting, and at midnight, we contacted NHS 111, the UK’s official out-of-hours emergency medical service. After a clinical assessment, we were explicitly advised not to travel.
ERGO refused the claim because:
We didn’t take a vomiting infant to A&E at 2–3 a.m.
NHS 111 medical advice was dismissed as “insufficient.”
A GP letter issued later the same day (after symptoms eased) didn’t magically state she was unfit at 06:00 that morning
This is utterly unrealistic, unreasonable, and cruel.
They even claimed my child was “fit to fly” — despite the fact that the only medical advice available at the time told us not to travel, and despite the journey being over 24 hours door-to-door (multiple flights plus a 12-hour road trip).
ERGO seems to expect parents to either:
Ignore NHS medical advice, or
Drag a dangerously unwell toddler to the hospital in the middle of the night, or
Force a sick child onto long-haul flights just to protect their paperwork
This is insurance in name only. When you actually need help, they hide behind technicalities, hindsight, and impossible standards of “proof.
If your claim involves a child, illness, or real-world emergencies, do not expect ERGO to support you. I am now escalating this to the Financial Ombudsman Service.
I strongly advise anyone considering ERGO Travel Insurance to look elsewhere.

The worst App in the world. For every action on app it gaves Error even for simpel inbouw uploading or sending a message or chat with Customer Service. Even a normal e-mail adres is not working. I sent a text message to the agent to the mobile number. He tried to send me a document, it didn’t work 🥺🤨 the worst thing is: these issues are not new, it is now about 1 year like this.

I was confronted with the most rudeness from 2 customer service agents. Both spoken with me in the most degrading way. The first one did just put the phone down after she spoken with me as I am stupid, I explained the situation to the second one Frau Gudrun and she replied its not my issue intead of apologising, representing the ERGO - incredible customer service. Do they know without clients they would not have a job and I was super nice and so upset in the end, the second one put the phone down as she refused to apologise for her colleagues behaviour.

When you make a claim i did not realise that you needed to take out Life insurance as well as Travel ins with this company as it took 6 months before claim was settled which did not help my wife's and my health, we had to cancel our holiday on the morning of travel as my wife was very ill and all this company did was keep asking for more and more information and 12 months of medical records which in the end they didn't need, so please be very careful of this company if you see them they are untrust worthy.
Because of all the stress i myself finished up in Hospital for the day and night so i hope this company can feel proud of there achievements.

I am absolutely frustrated with ERGO’s customer support. I called to ask about the status of my case and was greeted with extreme rudeness from the agent. She immediately said she couldn’t tell me the status and had no information (what?). Then she complained that the system hadn’t granted her access all day. When she finally logged in, there was a loud, constant beeping—caused by her cheek pressing phone buttons—making it nearly impossible to understand what she was saying. When I asked her to repeat herself because I didn’t understand, she sighed loudly and responded tersely with something completely different. I may not be a native German speaker, but that doesn’t justify being treated dismissively—even though I was simply asking what the next steps were and what to expect. I ended the call out of sheer frustration. ERGO, please do better!

First of all their customer service is very bad . Their behavior is like they don’t care about my opinion.
I have an Ergo Rechtsschutz insurance. I just tried two weeks to contact through customer service number and get to know how can get a free lawyer advice. Yesterday one customer service provider told me that as a foreigner You can’t get any free advice or help from the lawyer.
So, why should I pay every month for this insurance? Why everything is so complicated? Your customer service provider should speak friendly.

Avoid this company. They take your money quickly but provide no service. They don’t respond, refuse to pay, and take no responsibility. I’m stuck in a two-year contract with them. I will never go back!

🚩 Avoid this company. ⛔️ After two years of full casco, paid at enormous prices, although I have three cars insured with them, they refused to pay a vandalism damage. They invoked puerile reasons, such as the amount in the sales contract being too low, proof of a parking ticket and the lack of witnesses. Basically, I had to prove to them how the damage occurred, and do the police's job. Dear insurers, that's why it's called full casco, that's why you rob us of extra money, so that we can have peace of mind! ⛔️

My wife A.....a M ...er (d.o.b. ...06.14) prev of Munich Bavaria had a policy mature in Sept 2024. She currently resides in South Africa.
It was paid out to a fictitious A..,a M...,.r to a bank account in Austria. A......er was sent a proof of payment, but we think your systems are hacked, as the bank appears as fictitious as the gmail account. The 'real' A...
a M....er has never changed her email address.
All emails to Ergo Germany as well as phone calls, are going unanswered. Short of going to the social media, how does one resolve this immediately ?

We have an old contract with Ergo direct. Unfortunately we made it online. Never again! Unfriendly customer service. No advice! Now I stand here Ergo won't pay because they say the teeth were missing before we took the contract. We told Ergo I had teeth missing and there
was no problem they would pay. 12 years on Ergo won't pay for the missing teeth. Wouldn't even pay for a bridge so I had to pay. What's the point in insurance if they won't pay. Even though they advertise they will pay even if you have missing teeth! We made the contract online so now we are left in " no mans land" thinking of cancelling the contract. Great after 12 years. Waste of money.

I bought insurance for a concert, a concert I really wanted to go to. Unfortunately, as I was travelling, I got sick with COVID. In this day and age, you do not go to your doctor with COVID, you do a test at home and you stay put. That is what I did. I tried reselling the tickets, but it did not work, and as I could not go to the concert, I tried to claim what I paid for. I am now 80 eur out of pocket. They are scammers, and they will ask for a medical certificate just so that they don't have to pay you. Do not use them!
They also do not allow you to write text, the only way to upload anything is to upload a PDF. Awful interface, not at all user friendly, suits this awful company.

Ergo did not resolve my claim after 7 months
I decided to pay extra for my liability insurance at Ergo so that in case I lose my keys my insurance would cover it. Unfortunately it happened to me, and I cannot get my claim resolved at ERGO after 7 months.
I have already spent so much time to provide the required documents. But they seem to delay the process deliberately at each step. They play a long game of trying to get me tired of trying it again. Every time, I send them the required information, they get back with some new questions. I answer, and nothing happens until I reach out again to ask about the progress, that is the point when they send me their new next question.
Their latest inquire is about the age of the lock. I don't even live in that apartment any more and why couldn't they ask this question at the beginning? What does it change when I already have an invoice from the owner? How could I prove the age of the lock?
Why should I pay for their insurance and for the extras if I don't benefit from it when I need it?
Stay away from them!
