Zero stars - appallingly bad in every way.
Yodel were used to deliver a time critical package that I ordered from a well know computer component supplier. I chose next working day delivery but didn't get to choose the courier.
The tracking information was sent with a link to the Yodel tracking site, confirming that my package would be delivered on the next working day (a Monday). On the day of the delivery the tracking still said it was due to be delivered that day, but mysteriously it also indicated that it hadn't left the depot. It remained in this state until 10.00pm, so I had wasted a day waiting for them (it required a signature).
I was not in the next day, but at around 6pm I managed to check the tracking and it said they had tried to deliver but could not access the property - They never told me they would do this. No note or anything had been left, and there no attempted phone call. I rearranged delivery for the following day. Exacty the same thing happend as on the original day - it kept telling me it would be delivered but it had not left the depot. So I phoned them (which was almost impossible but I managed to do it almost by accident). Only half a day wasted this time.
The very helpful person on phone told me that it had never once left the depot, and that no matter what else the tracking says, if it has not left the depot in the morning then it wasn't going to be delivered. So I phoned the supplier with whom I had placed the order, and sent an email to Yodel, complaining about their innacurate tracking and impossible to reach customer service.
The supplier told me that they had been told my lane was inacessible due to hedges not being cut - and that a driver had damaged their van on a previous occassion. This is rubbish and says more about the competence of their driver than the acessibility of my lane.
Yodel were very apologetic and were looking into the matter and were very freindly and reassuring until I said I wanted some sort of recompense. They said (as is legally correct, although morally suspect) that they couldn't provide any compensation, and then proceeded to re-state the overgrown hedges story.
They haven't bothered to respond to my last email.
So if you want tracking that is accurate and reliable, and want a courier you can trust, then ask your suppliers not to use Yodel - I will always do this from now on.
Your supplier is ultimately responsible for your delivery, so it is in their interest to know if a courier is likely to be able to deliver on the contract they have with them.
Yodel don't need to care about what they do and so they don't. It is not the courier that is responsible for late deliveries, so they can get away with such utter disregard for the people who rely on them.
Note: I just checked the tracking and it still says it will be delivered last Wednesday (1 week ago today). Nice one Yodel - very poor.
