Snagit is probably our go-to tool for capturing screens and creating quick, polished visuals for client documentation and training materials. I love how it does a lot more than basic screenshots and has noticeably sped up how I explain processes.

What I liked:

The capture options are excellent, especially scrolling capture and quick video recording with system audio for short walkthroughs.

The built-in editor is surprisingly powerful but still easy to use. I can add callouts, arrows, step numbers, and blur sensitive info without opening another design tool.

It's fast enough to keep up with real-time collaboration. When I'm on a call with clients or developers and need to show them exactly what I mean, Snagit doesn't slow me down.

The new subscription model is a drawback. It used to be a one-time purchase, and I'm not thrilled with the ongoing fee.

It has a wide range of options that you can do with your screenshot. It also has the best option for you if you need a different set of types of screenshots often. For example, if you need scrolling, region, or a quick video recording, or something like that, or a screenshot that needs to be numbered, definitely the best option's all around. It is straightforward to install. Customer support is there, and they have numerous types of tutorials available on their website. I use this program almost daily, numerous times a day. The Windows version does seem to have a lot more options, or at least easier to find. I use this program with all my stuff, and it's pretty straight-forward to use. It can be a little bit of a learning curve, and it's not always easy to copy-paste a screenshot that you've just taken. You need to go through a couple of steps in order to pull your screenshot to share right away. There are many options to share from one app to another, but if you need to take your screenshot and convert it to a JPG or a PNG, it does take 2-3 clicks. I work as a Dietician and Nutritionist, manage a homeopathy clinic, and create health education content. In my daily work, I deal with diet charts, lab reports, and patient forms, and Snagit helps me explain these clearly using annotated screenshots. Instead of long explanations or repeated calls, I can simply mark important areas or instructions on an image, which saves time and avoids confusion.

There isn’t much to dislike about Snagit for my kind of work. Overall, it fits well into my daily routine. The only small issue I notice is that when I handle many screenshots, the library can feel a bit crowded and needs some time to organize. Also, for very quick captures, it can feel slightly slower than a basic screenshot shortcut. Apart from these minor points, it works smoothly and supports my work well. SnagIt is software that you install in your local environment, and as such, it used to cost a 1-time fee for purchasing the software + a guarantee of 1 major version update. Fast forward to today - I'm apparently now required to subscribe to SnagIt annually. Apparently, no one cares anymore about the diff between a local software installation that doesn't require a cloud connection (and so doesn't cost them a thing after I download and install) vs one that requires ongoing services. It is easy to use to take pictures or videos of my screen whether it is part of my screen or the entire screen. I tend to use it every day. I never really had to call customer support as it is straightforward to use. There are probably more features that I have not used so I look forward to exploring them once I get the time. I bought a lifetime subscription in 2022, and since then, Snagit has become my daily companion for taking screenshots and recording videos. I really enjoy using it, and it helps me work more efficiently. The software is very easy to use, and while the editing tools are somewhat limited, they are still effective and quick. The quality of the saved files is good. I also find the audio input and output settings particularly useful, as they can be adjusted even after a recording has already started. After my first year of subscription, I was informed that future updates would no longer be saved on my device. Since receiving this notice, I have experienced some lags and glitches, particularly when recording. The app occasionally fails to record videos properly, and sometimes it only captures completely frozen frames. Usually, force quitting and restarting the app resolves the issue. It is easy & quick to use, and good thing is the variety of tools for format the screenshot in all possible way, also third party tool are easy to integrate, region capture feature is one of the best in the segment, it's customer support documents are very helpful, and their how-to video guide is also good, I can easily implement few of my required to with it, so I am using it for last 1 year, and I am enjoying it Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Its scrolling capture is the feature that keeps me hooked, grabbing a full webpage or long chat conversation in one clean sweep is extremely helpful. The annotation tools are also essential, I can slap arrows, callouts and stamps on a screenshot in seconds and the results look polished without needing to open Photoshop Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

The price is a bit high especially since they moved to a subscription model. I get it though, but dropping $60+ annually for a tool that feels like it should be a one-time purchase is a bit tough. As a technical writer, i highly recommend this tool for capturing images and screen recordings. It's really easy to use, as i use it daily for capturing the ui and creating the GIF files. Whenever I get stuck on the screen while capturing images, i report the issue and receive customer support quickly. If you have Snagit on your laptop and want to use it for capturing the screen, i believe you would not choose another product again. Sometimes it won't select the specific required window on Figma. Also, at least they should have given basic features for editing the captured screen recordings. I know this is an image editing tool, but while modifying the GIF, if i want to highlight the specific part the way we do it for images, we have to change it through Camtasia, then convert it to GIF.
