Rockman X7[Note 1] is a singleplayer third-person action platform game developed by Capcom Production Studio 3 and published by Capcom. It is the seventh mainline entry in the Mega Man X series, which attempted to bring the series into 3D by featuring fully 3D graphics while mixing the series' 2D action-platforming with 3D third-person shooter gameplay. It was, however, was panned by critics and players alike for the game's poor execution of its interchangeable 2D/3D gameplay.
The game, also known as Mega Man X7 outside of Asian territories, was originally released on PlayStation 2 in 2003. It was ported to PC by Multi-Enterprise and released exclusively in South Korea and Taiwan on April 29, 2004. The PC version has been reportedly considered to be inferior to the PlayStation 2 version in many ways, such as missing visual effects and shadows, incorrect sound looping, and contain no video or sound settings. Despite being a PC port of a console game, it does not have gamepad support, and the default key bindings are awkward and only the hard-coded keys can be changed (see Input settings). The PC version is also region-locked to restrict the installations and functionality to Korean PCs.
The PlayStation 2 version served as the basis for the port of Mega Man X7 featured in Mega Man X Legacy Collection 2.
