We attempted to contact the company to cancel or amend the policy, reaching out in person, by email, and by post. Unfortunately, they did not engage in meaningful communication and simply stated that, as we had signed the contract, it could not be changed.
Our experience with this company has been extremely unsatisfactory, and I would not recommend their insurance services to anyone.

I have been waiting over two months for a reply to my formal complaint about them messing up my home insurance changing it from permanent residence to temporary without consultation I have chased it up and still no reply. Their customer service is really really bad. I had to pay an extra 200 euros to ensure my cover was correct above what I was originally told for my permanent home. Suggest you look elsewhere!

I've had Mapfre insurance for a number of years and luckily haven't had to use it until today. I've broken a tooth and need an emergency appointment. Phoned their english speaking service to find a dentist that would see me quickly (I am in Tenerife). First appointment they could get me was more than a month away. What a joke. I've paid for a local dentist (who doesn't work with Mapfre).

I have never experience anything like this, I bought a brand new motorbike in the beginning of the year, and because it was all new I decided to do a full insurance with everything covered and a deductible of 600 euros, only 14 days later I´m hit from behind by at lady setting with her mobile phone. She is Spanish and I´m not that good at Spanish yet, she started yelling at me like it should have been my fault, I said that we need the police, and she said yes an then drove of, I went after he and drove in front of her, and told her that we needed the police, and she was yelling at me again, at said that I´m crazy to drive in front of her, but she looked like some one running from the accident, at the police station she totally controlled the the conversation, and I couldn't get a word in. I got my bike to be fixed, and then some times later, I was told that the two insurance companies could not agree, so if I did not have any witnesses to the accident, I would have to use my own insurance, and I had, of course, taken out an insurance where I had to cover up to 600 euros myself, and that is what happened.
I wrote to several different customer service channels at Mapfre, but no one would take responsibility and said I should contact my local branch, which is quite difficult when I was outside of Spain at the time.
So for the first time in world history, you can be rear-ended and still be a part of the blame yourself... at least according to MAPFRE. I would not recommend this company in any way, and especially not if you choose an expensive insurance where you cover a larger amount yourself, because then MAPFRE doesn't care, since in this case they were almost left unharmed.

I have been 4 years customer with Mapfre for health insurance, most premium option. Ana Mapfee agent added strange insurance product, saying it will keep my price down. First 2 years, I didn’t use Mapfre service almost at all. Starting 3rd year, due to lumbar disk hernia, I started use orthopedic and physiotherapy. Switching to 4th year, they increased my subscription price 30 euro per month, despite shady extra insurance product. Contacted Ana, she said, because I used services, price went up. For 2026 year, they increased another 25 euro. So another word, Mapfre is saying keep paying us premium, but do not dare use our services!! Damn SCAM! Sad that Spanish consumer bureaus not taking any action against them. I will still lodge a complaint with the bureau

They seemed to have solved the payment issues at their website for international travel insurance. I.e. my previous review does not hold anymore, better experience now. However, the issue is a bit that Mapfre offers less coverage than others for similar price, which is unfortunate. But ok, for now no major complaints anymore. And thanks for fixing the online payment issue.

I did as they asked and nobody even acknowledged it. They obviously do not appreciate our business. It's pointless to pursue this any further. My mother will not be renewing her policy after all these years of being a customer. Such a shame

On May 10th 2025, while I was traveling and out of Spain, I received a phone call from my staff in Madrid that our Office / Storage located in Calle Valle De Guadalix 1 San Sebastian de los Reyes, was flooded due to a piping issue in the apartment above my property.
I arrived the next morning to the office to find everything damaged and in over 5 centimeters of water. The owner / occupant of the above apartment were present and apologized, and started the calls with her insurance company MAPFRE to assess the damages.
In the damaged stuff, also included two Persian carpets valued at over 70,000 Euros, one of them being an antique silk carpet. The MAPFRE insurance company told us that for those two carpets they need to send an expert to assess the damage.
It took them two weeks to send someone, and when the expert came, she immediately acknowledged the high quality and rarity of the carpets and said that she would find a company that can properly clean and restore the carpets and the colors were running into the white areas and needed to be properly restored and repaired.
Over one week later, she called us and gave us the contact details of a professional carpet restoration and cleaning service. I contacted them and the next day they picked up the carpets. During this chain of events the following is important and documented:
1) MAPFRE (The policy of the upstairs Tenant / Occupant) confirmed in an email dated 18th June2025 that they have approved the repair of the paint work of the ceiling and floors, and they will reimburse us the money directly into our account.
2) The budget was given and approved by them for the amount of 3,867.41, and approved in an email dated 18th of June by Silvia Rodriguez Gonzales – The Architecto technico of MAPFRE.
3) In the same email Ms. Silvia Rodriguez Gonzales also writes, the payment for the repair of the carpets shall be made directly to the restoring company once they have finished.
Now, after nearly 3 months, they haven’t paid anything for the repairs, and the carpets are ready to be collected. Invoice has been issued by the restoration company, but MAPFRE is now asking me to pay the carpet company and send them the invoice, which I know will never be paid back to me.
On a separate and important note, I should not be claiming anything from my insurance policy. The damage was not caused by me. Either the occupant of the upstairs unit must pay and release my carpets and claim from her policy or her insurance has to pay the invoice and release my carpets.
Now I would like to take necessary legal action against MAPFRE and the occupant of the unit causing the damage for fraud and making me go around without an intention of paying my damages.

I have house insurance. They refuse to cover water damage although my contract clearly states water damage is included. When I asked where, in the contract, there was an exception the agent said he didn’t know. When I showed him the contract showing water damage was included, the agent was helpless to assist. He claimed he didn’t make the decisions; the assessor (perito) made the decision. The perito refused to come to the house or speak with me. There were no hojas de reclamaciones available in the office.

Yesterday I wrote a review about how poor the web site and on line service was regarding my claim for damage to my car.
Mapfre replied on this site and said “use this link and give your details so we can sort”
But the link took me to the very same pages that didn’t work yesterday!!

Purchased a 12 month motorbike insurance policy. 7 months later I asked them NOT to RENEW the policy as I had sold the bike.
Today (5 months later) they have taken full payment from my account, without my permission (obviously!) to RENEW the same policy I asked them not to.
I called the helpline (same day the payment left my account) and I have been told that they will hold the payment for 18 months, in case I purchase another policy - excluding health cover!?
I now need to do a 3hr round trip to their office to sort this out, which, lets face it, will be an utter waste of time.
Should have used Linea Directa, I do with my car insurance and have for years and have never had an issue! Not at all like these time-wasting crooks.
Just to be clear: I didn't claim on the insurance or cancel the insurance early, I only asked that they didn't RENEW the insurance which is exactly what they did and now they refuse to give me my money back.

I called Mapfre 912747600 today 28th May. A lady called Sylvia answered the phone within minutes. My query was long and complicated but Sylvia dealt with it patiently and friendly and understood the complications perfectly. She conversed with a colleague about the situation and after checking the data on file arrived at a conclusion. If you have to call make sure you have all the information to hand...policy number, work carried out to date etc.
I am very impressed with the customer service dealt with in a friendly but professional manner.

I called them today because I needed a list of English speaking specialists, so I can treat my problem with someone who I can actually communicate with.
Guess what.. I've spent over 40 (!!!!) minutes on the phone just to hear they don't provide such service.
On my first 20 minutes call, I spoke with about 5 people just to be transferred to an English speaking person. And then she put me on hold and few seconds after actually put the phone down on me..
So I called again - this time it took about 7-8 people and only slightly over 25 mins to be connected with someone liable.. As they didn't speak English they got a colleague who was translating for us (appreciated, but what a nonsense) and then I was informed this service doesn't exist in their company.
I can't believe that in 21st century an international big insurance group doesn't provide such a basic stuff in a country that is so multicultural (e.g. Cigna provides that).
When I was researching about their services everybody from there was somehow able to speak English with me without any problems.. But once I signed it.. a totally different story.
Their app (which is crucial to get any service) is only in Spanish, so are the websites and when you call any of the numbers there is only Spanish speaking "automat".. no possibility to switch to English anywhere.
Secondly, 40 minutes on a call? Just to get a simple answer? Really? This is totally unacceptable, so I will be finishing with you as soon as I can..

Since September 2024 I have had an exasperating time with Mapfre. In September 2024 I purchased online a travel insurance policy with them. Unfortunately, a few days later I had to cancel the travel plans due to my partner having some medical difficulties. This was before the policy was to commence. I therefore cancelled the flights and hotels without any difficulty. I contacted Mapfre to inform them of the situation. I asked them by telephone and email to cancel the policy and that I would suffer any financial losses (which were not very high) for hotel cancellation excesses. All, I wanted was things to be done simply. The policy had not started and I was also within the EU cooling off period, No one at Mapfre said that what I wanted to do was not possible. If the policy had actually commenced then I would understand that a cancellation was not possible. A period of time elapsed and I started getting emails form Mapfre asking why I had not claimed and to submit documents. I therefore sent the many documents. They then asked for medical reports. The initial reports did not cover every appointment so they asked for more and x-rays (TACs). Eventually in February Mapfre advised they would not be making any payment due to the timing of my partner recognising that there might be a medical problem. My partner is not a doctor and a sense that there might be problem is not a medical diagnosis. The first time that a doctor became aware of my friend’s problem was on the day I tried to cancel the insurance.
I then started to make a series of many telephone calls to Mapfre to say that I had actually wanted to cancel the policy before it had even started. Sometimes the telephone calls gave me encouragement that my situation was understood. No one said that it was not possible to cancel the policy and refund the premium.
I note that all calls to Mapfre are recorded and therefore what I said when I spoke to them last September would have been available to them. At that point I did not know the extent or diagnosis of what my partner’s diagnosis would be or whether it would or would not be covered by insurance. All I wanted was for the policy to be cancelled before it became active. I was happy to absorb any excesses from travel companies and remember very well saying to Mapfre that cancelling the policy would, in fact, benefit Mapfre. At that point I did not know that they would several months later deny the claim that I did not want to make in the first place.
I am deeply frustrated that the matter has gone on for so many months. Please will Mapfre refund the policy premium since the request to cancel it was made firstly before it became operable and secondly EU consumer laws allow it to be done.
Perhaps raising the matter here might provide Mapfre with a way to direct my concerns to someone who might help me. That is because I feel I have exhausted every other channel.

However, the telephone number is the same one that I have been using previously. I provide the same information and references each time. Everyone is very pleasant and patient to me. I am not a young person and the explaining and pleading for things to be finalised is exhausting and upsetting. Just once did I speak to the same person twice. He however could only outline the situation to someone else at Mapfre since the matter was not in his hands to solve. He even remembered my previous telephone call. Can you give me any assurance that if I telephone again that someone will finalise the matter for me. Thank you.

Probably one of the most corrupted and dishonest insurance in Europe. Do no approach this company at all cost.
One year after my car was damaged by another driver insured with them also (so both clients of MAPFRE) no repair so far. Evidence provided showing their client was lying concerning the accident, yet no action from MAPFREE.
Flood in my flat, also insured with MAPFRE, they now refusing to address the problem and repair damaged flooring. Again, a dishonest behaviour that will be now be challenged in court.

I was taken into the Vithas hospital, Almería by ambulance as I collapsed. I have been having terrible head problems that came on suddenly. Mapfre said they would do all tests necessary. They did bloods and a ct scan. Told me I didn’t have cancer? Where the hell did that diagnosis come from? And said I had to see a neurologist. I have seen the Neurologist who ordered an urgent MRI scan which Mapfre have denied saying the policy is still in the “waiting period” until 1st April. A Mapfre agent assured me that any Emergency/Urgent treatment would be undertaken no matter what! I was also made to leave the hospital at 7pm in my pyjamas & slippers and told to get the bus home, (68 Kim’s). My husband had originally wanted to follow the ambulance in our car but the ambulance driver said he had to come with me in the ambulance so we ended up paying €90 for a taxi. This is completely unacceptable treatment 😡
UPDATE: I went to the link you said, filled out the firm but nobody could be bothered to get back to me. Not that I’m surprised 😡
