I needed to sort out my membership…

I needed to sort out my membership renewal and contacted JamPlay regarding getting an affordable renewal. Danny was really helpful and I found the customer service was most excellent. I can not fault JamPlay for the courses or the customer service. They are simply brilliant. Thank you JamPlay.

Site is a mess

The website seems to be a mess. The content looks good, but I can't get through to pay for an account. Error pages, unable to type in the captcha, etc. Finally got through all that, and the "complete checkout" button doesn't work.

The content is a great value, but the navigation is disastrous.

I recently took advantage of their Black Friday sale and signed up for a year (about $8/month). For that price, the sheer volume of content is absolutely a bargain. However, the interface and navigation is just atrocious. Absolute train wreck. Nothing is interconnected or organized in intuitive ways, necessitating an inordinate amount of jumping around and searching for what you need. I'm not going to complain too much, for the money I spent, and I feel that I'll get good use out of the service, but if I'd paid full price I'd be reconsidering my purchase. If the wealth of content were interconnected and clickable, as one would expect in 2021, I'd be giving 5 stars rather than 3. Please overhaul your website and user interface, JamPlay. - Hart

JamPlay is Amazing

I can't even begin to explain what an incredible value JamPlay is. I recommend it to anyone who will listen to me. I absolutely have loved every teacher I have learned from - including the amazing live sessions. Thank you for being there. I have learned and am continuing to learn so much.

I was going to sign up. But sounds like you have payment issues, don't deliver on promises, and tbh some of the responses on here sound like your blaming the customer instead of just refunding when you've made a mistake

Out of the blue they decide to charge my credit card - even though I cancelled the account years ago.
Be careful leave your details with them as they charge without advising of the what, when and where.
Have been waiting for a response from “Support” for days!

Terrible user interface and design.

Terrible user interface and design.

The UI and website design is TERRIBLE. This is a website from the 2000s. Compare this to JTC or another modern online website??? It's insane. I regret paying for this and wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Good content, bad site.

The good:
* Lessons/courses are generally very good and there's a lot of them, for a wide variety of skill sets and genres.
* Daily live sessions / open discussions. Several teachers streaming and taking questions every day. I really appreciate this!
* It's nice to have predictable paths to follow, compared to browsing randomly for free stuff here and there. (Nothing unique for JamPlay, though, this applies to any structured course.)

The not so good:
* Functionality is in need of a big overhaul. For example, there's a bunch of "tools" - metronome, tuner, etc. - that are no longer working due to being flash based. Flash is discontinued, something that most are aware of but JamPlay apparently not. Or maybe they don't care.
* The site design looks like something from 1998. It doesn't just look bad - it's hard to navigate and understand. If you want me to pay for a service instead of browsing elsewhere for free stuff, maybe you should make sure that the experience is a pleasant one. Re-design your site. It's 2021.
* Stop trying to sell so hard!
* I feel like JamPlay is more interested in my money than my learning process. The site's old, a lot of courses are old, things are not working, etc - but hey, people are still paying so let's just run this thing for as long as possible.

Overall impression:
* Worth it for the course material and the live sessions, but JamPlay could be so much better.
* Make sure you don't pay full price (there's pretty much always a "sale" going on, which is annoying in itself).
* Are there better options out there? I don't know. I would hope so! But as long as you know why you're joining up, and the downsides, you might very well be a satisfied customer. I'm not really dissatisfied - just annoyed.

good lessons & material, bad billing & account management

updated review on 2/2/21. Jamplay lessons are well done, useful and cover pretty much whatever you want/need to learn. You must be self-motivated and disciplined to make full use of the material. Jamplay has some issues regarding billing and account management. They were responsive to the issues I had regarding canceling my account and billing. If it wasn't for those issues would be more stars.
previous review: [had a membership in 2019 & 2020 membership was cancelled. (both Bass and Guitar programs in 2020).
I was sent an email saying that the membership was going to expire (it runs till the end of the subscription period even when cancelled which is pretty standard and reasonable). I did NOT go to the Jamplay site and renew either membership, but I was charged for a renewal on both memberships. I have contacted Jamplay through their site (it's Sunday) and will update this as appropriate depending on their response. There Does Not Seem To Be A Way to Delete Your Payment Info...

So I just tried to "re-cancell" the accounts and despite several attempts the guitar subscription still shows as active. The bass subscription shows canceled though...]

Deceitful business practices

JamPlay continued to take funds from my bank account even though i did not renew my subscription. They sent me an email stating:

"Oh no! Looks like your 1 year JamPlay membership has come to an
end. If you'd like to continue to access JamPlay, you'll need to head
on over to your account area and add on a subscription:

Click here to reactivate your membership.

I did NOT "click" to reactivate, but they still took $159.95 from my account, for 3 years!! They told me that all subscriptions auto renew, but on their website it states that only monthly and quarterly subscriptions renew. And why would they email me asking me to 'click' to renew if it was auto renew?

I changed my debit card but JamPlay reached out to VISA who helped them continue to take funds from my bank account...who knew VISA did that!

JamPlay's business practices are deceitful to say the least

Hi Pete, this is Jason with JamPlay. When you get a chance please contact us in regards to this. I've done some further research on this and believe this may have been a miss-communication due to a system error several years ago. We did have an e-mail notifying of account closure that was accidentally sent to a block of users. We did send a follow-up e-mail notifying users of that, however we certainly understand how that could be missed.

We did of course refund the most recent purchase already to you which I'd like to point out here.

Please contact me at [email protected] and we can come to a solution.

Thanks and take care.

Superb site

I have researched most of the on-line bass guitar teaching web sites and Jam Play was by the far the best. The teaching tools available on the site are superb, the site takes you from absolute beginner to being able to focus on any style you wish to play. The tutorials are excellent with 3 different camera angles to show you how to follow the tutor. You cannot find better on the web, especially for the price which puts a lot of the other sites to shame.
