listen if the little mermaid 2023 did anything right it was ariel and eric... they were already a good couple in the original but fleshing him out and making him drawn to the ocean in a parallel to ariel being drawn to land is so good. and kind of increasing that human vs merfolk tension to make it this romeo & juliet love story. like sorry they kind of slayed there. eric sees ariel turn back into a mermaid in front of him and all he does is hold her tighter. they're both gigantic nerds. he's a foot taller than her. it's incredible.

THE LITTLE MERMAID (2023)

Okay, I’m sure my followers are tired about hearing talk about this movie (well too bad, you’re going to suffer lol!) but one thing I love is the fact that Eric leans in eagerly but Ariel leans in slowly because she’s likely fighting the effects of Ursula’s potion. The one that made Ariel forget that she needed to kiss Eric. 

It’s an amazing acting choice and I wonder if that was directed or chosen by the actors themselves! 

so anyway i saw the little mermaid and it was absolutely incredible. in my opinion it blew the original out of the water AND was superior to all of the other disney live actions

so when i was at camp we had a dress up superhero day and so i dressed up as black widow but like super cheaply (cheap wig, black leggings, black jacket) so it takes most ppl a second to figure out what i’m going for anyway i ran into a little girl who loved my costume and after a brief conversation it transpired it was because she was under the impression that i was ariel. i was like oh cool yeah that makes sense, how did you guess? expecting her to be like “the hair!” and she gave me this ‘duh’ look and said “it’s her costume from the avengers” because she’s under the impression that the little mermaid is also the black widow and i love her and the world she must live in
