Our country sinks beneath the yoke

Serving only the finest memes, hot takes, and deranged rants on niche topics since 2013. Current menu: Mostly MXTX & cdramas. Fangs of Fortune freak. Always on tap: David Tennant. URL is from Doctor Who.

Friends, followers, casual rebloggers! This is one of my very occasional posts introducing (or warning, if you prefer) my blog.

This started off as a Doctor Who/David Tennant fan blog, and I still love them both. I love Shakespeare's Richard II, especially the 2013 RSC production starring David Tennant, and Shakespeare in general.

Then there was Hamilton, the musical plus real actual history.

I am currently into Chinese dramas, especially wuxia, xianxia, and BL.

Vampires are a perennial interest, as are Star Trek, X Files, and a bunch of other stuff.

people talk about how we need to bring back "don't feed the trolls" rhetoric for modern internet ragebait and I agree but also I think the most useful thing from the Old Internet that I miss is LURKING

be a lurker. just read things and think about them without feeling the need to weigh in or call out or disseminate everything you encounter. it's so nice and so freeing and it's a good way to learn things.

I have frequently regretted getting involved in shit that didn't involve me online but you know what I've never regretted doing? Lurking. literally lurk moar

Didn't even get out of my alley on the way to work before ICE tried another major assault in my neighborhood this morning. Spent two hours plus chasing ICE around the neighborhood. Got my first taste of tear gas and handed out a bunch of my KN95 masks to other folks for next time. It's nasty shit but it can be survived.

Also saw officers shooting at people's feet to make them move not once but twice. Given that the bullets didn't bounce and left small holes in the asphalt, I think that might have been live rounds (please correct me if someone knows better). Didn't catch it on video, I'm not great at recording yet but I expect to get a lot of practice in the next few weeks.

My poor furious neighborhood. I ran into someone who had been on her way to lay flowers on Renee Good's grave when she heard the whistle and showed up. That's where we are today. Can't even grieve without having to stand up and fight again.

I am FINALLY watching Fangs of Fortune and a) everyone is SO beautiful, b) the sound design is SO goofy, and c) the polycule vibes are INSANE. Just off the charts. It’s a miracle this Demon Hunting Bureau has any time for demon hunting amidst all the tender hand-holding and loaded sidelong looks. Each of them is weirder than the last. “Appearing normal is actually an anomaly,” the closest thing to a normal man among them says in episode 6, and by god they really all take that to heart. Freak4freak4freak4freak. I love them your honor.

I’m 19 episodes into Glory and in a nutshell, the drama is:

  • Bitches (men and women) are jealous and dumb
  • Hou Minghao is a nice piece of meat and is treated as such
  • Gulinazha is a beautiful vase that comes alive when she has to act like a thirsty lecher towards aforementioned nice piece of meat
  • Tea is serious business
  • A few murders here and there
  • Lots of blurring filters
  • Lots of wind machines
  • More plot twists and secrets than your aunt’s telenovela
  • Avoid if you can’t stand overpowered Mary Sues and normally logical characters making illogical decisions for ~plot reasons
  • Turn your brain off if you still wish to proceed and enjoy the ride
