Somehow forgot a whole book when submitting the draft for this one, Blood Meridian now added!
I really like how this turned out, sometimes people don’t want more dramatic angles like this but I think it looks cool.

the power of a bowl of rice mixed with some fucking bullshit cannot be overstated
This phrase has already entered my vocabulary re: media criticism where like. The viewer has a concrete view of what they expect a story to be based on the tropes and cliches they're used to seeing together, and when that doesn't happen, they judge it as a failed depiction of what they assumed it was going to be instead of judging it as what it actually is.
"This show is problematic because the hero didn't kill the villain at the end": When does he steal the bread?
"These two characters who were close friends throughout the series don't kiss at the end! What the fuck?": When does he steal the bread?
"This feels like it's missing a conclusion! Like, the protagonist does bad stuff and because of a critical decision he makes as a result of his major character flaws, meets tragedy in the end! Where's the part where he learns better and brings is love back from the dead and becomes a good guy and gets a happy ending?": When does he steal the fucking bread??
I heard this out as "When criticizing something, you must judge it for what it is, not what it isn't"
I think of it as "There weren't any explosions in this romantic comedy."
I once watched a Red Green skit where there was a conversation with the show's explosives enthusiast. He was talking about the movie Bridge Over the River Kwai and how the explosion at the end was delightful.
And then he started talking about going to see Bridges of Madison County, and how he spent the whole movie waiting for one of those bridges to explode, but nothing.
"And I wasn't the only one disappointed. Everybody in the theater was crying by the end."
So that's my name for it. "Is this a River Kwai or is it a Madison County?"
We have lost the meaning of queerbait
Just because what you wanted didn't happen, doesn't mean it's queerbaiting. It is now being used an excuse when the ship you want didn't get together. Queerbaiting has to do with marketing.
Queerbait: A cookbook that you learned about from ads with pictures of people eating tasty looking soups and the author's social media posts about how soup lovers are going to love it, proves to have no soup recipes.
Not queerbait: A cookbook has no soup recipes. You assumed there would be some based on vibes and wishful thinking. No soups were ever advertised or promised.
Also not queerbait: A cookbook that was advertised as containing soup recipes has soup recipes but not for the types of soups you like.
"don't assign human morality to non human things" is so true except when it comes to printers. they know what they are, they understand dilemmas and ethics and morality. they choose to be how they are, they choose to be evil, at their very core they are rotten
I never watched BBC Sherlock or engaged in the fandom and being into original Sherlock Holmes in the year 2024 feels like frolicking in a meadow that’s grown up over a battlefield. Occasionally a war weary veteran with shadows in their eyes will find me. “Don’t you know what happened in this place?” they ask me. “I literally don’t,” I reply, and go back to drawing guys from 1895.
yeah that's gonna become a heritage post up there with "decay is an extant form of life"
In this analogy is Elementary like a nation that refugees from this conflict fled to to escape the horrors?
Are the Guy Ritchie films Switzerland since they are adopting a policy of Strict Neutrality here????
Hilariously, most media about Holmes I watch is the riffs by Bridget and Mary Jo of the old forties movies. Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce are my Holmes and Watson. Gosh help us all.
I love their riffs so much :D
And yeeeeeeee I love the older adaptations, there's a lot of neat tales there
And then there’s the Great Mouse Detective.
Featuring Vincent Price being utterly iconic :D
Insufficient respect is given to THE BEST modern Sherlock Holmes adaptation: The Warlock Holmes novels.
I know, they aren't TV or movies so folks are less aware. But no seriously they're beautiful.
What if Holmes was a wizard but also an idiot, while Smart Watson did the actual detective work and acted as the voice of reason?
...also what if Henry Baskerville was Wolverine? (I dunno, that one was silly but also great fun)
And they poke fun at some of the sillier aspects of the original stories:
While also addressing the...ahem...RUMOURS...about Holmes and Watson's living arrangements:
Anyway. They're by GS Denning and they're phenomenally fun. Glorious Holmes and Watson nonsense.
THAT HORSE LOOKS SO SAD OH NO ;-;
let them kill
A TEAM UP FOR THE AGES :D
Whoever made you think you'd get teased for not drinking alcohol at parties was lying. You're their new supreme. You can go pick up more snacks. You can take care of the fallen. You can talk to the cops. If you have a car, you can drive people home.
In movies they always portray the sober person as a nerd but it's more like being a priest. Your lack of engagement in the carnal realities of the party make you holy and powerful. You are a vital pillar of the community. A rock in a raging storm. Now go answer the door for the pizza man.
Also, you get to remember all the dumb crap your friends do and tell them about it the next day.
