I draw things. And 3d model things. Sometimes the same thing. Sometimes not. I tend to be more up to date on Instagram but you can find me on lots of social media as labrattish...oh. I also make games.

I made this! All of it! Minus the image through the window and the floor boards. Our final for Lighting, Shading, and Texturing was to pick a game and make 5 props from it and then arrange them however we saw fit. I chose Borderlands. And particularly Attack on Dragon Keep. <3 Everything was modelled in Maya, cleaned up in ZBrush, textured in Substance Painter, and then arranged, lit and rendered in Unity.

Finished 3d sculpt. All original characters. Using ZBrush and Maya.

So this is really the first fully finished sculpt I’ve done. The little deer girl was done with the express point of projection mapping and sending her to Maya for a low poly/game ready model and rig. Everything else came after. I still have a lot to learn (especially when it comes to rendering everything out how I want it) but I’m so excited to do more.

New sculpt I’m working on, everything is basically roughed out except her hair. The lighting sorta sucks, so this is her current face. (eyes are going to be textured then duplicated over, so I haven’t set the ones on the left yet) and below that is the character draft.

Working on a week long game jam over at itch.io (this one, to be precise: https://itch.io/jam/oneplusone )

My group decided that they were deadset on doing a 3D game...I’m the only artist. So in addition to the heightmap for the terrain and the a few caves and whatnots, these are the four characters I’ve modelled. The yeti is the main character and everything else will be an enemy of some sorts. The nutcracker and ballerina are meant to look super beat up and the penguin will be a squeaky toy. Got a lot left to do...as well as a slew of 2D art, I think...

I want to take this moment to talk about how nice it is to see progress in your art. In my 2D art I can see shifts in styles but I guess not as much growth. This is my 3D art progression. I took a 3D course right before I started my programming degree and hated it. I tried a different version of the course over the summer (after I finished my degree) and loved it and have stuck around to learn more. But it’s really fun to look at the difference and progression. The first 3 are from 2 years ago, the next two are from about a year ago, the next four are from this summer, and the last one is a current project. The last one is special because she’s a high poly sculpt that I’m then going to project over to low poly body form (I did a test run a few days ago and it still needs some work). But yeah. From just form work to texture it’s nice to see the difference.

I shared the start of this a while back. But here's where it has progressed. We were required to paint a bit to show we knew how, so note that that's not done AND she's missing the side/back portion of her shirt/skirt and her leggings and hot pants and shoes and detailing on clothing. Plus I found some crazy bad geometry I have to fix...hopefully. And I have to turn her into a lower poly version which scares me and hopefully get projection mapping working to take her from Zbrush into Maya for rigging and animating for a hypothetical game situation. For basically my first sculpt in Zbrush, I'm really proud.
