Dayshift chapter 3

In which Clare finally returns to work.
(Happy new year loves💜)
----------------------

Clare sighed deeply. She hadn't been into work for three weeks now, not daring to go back after she had seen that horrible tape. If things had gone her way, she wouldn't have gone back at all. She'd have left town and never look back.

But she needed the money. She needed to pay her tuition. She needed to pay her school supplies. And if she didn't get some money soon, she could kiss her education goodbye.

So, with a deep sigh and a badly hidden tremble, she walked out of her apartment. She needed to make some money.

"Oh my god!" Maria rushed forward, enveloping Clare into a tight hug. "I am so glad you're here!"

"You act like you haven't seen me in weeks?" Clare asked with an amused frown. It's not like they didn't share breakfasts and dinners together.

"Come on, seeing you at home is nothing like seeing you at work! It's so good to have you back - Milo has been driving me insane." Maria sighed, letting go of her friend.

"I didn't really have a choice," Clare mumbled, smiling despite it all. "Is everything alright here? Did- did anything else happen?"

Maria took Clare to the kitchen, pouring the girl a cup of tea. "Well, not really. There have been some weird things, but none we could actually link to that video."

"You haven't seen it, right?"

Maria shook her head. "I didn't dare to. Seeing your response was enough. Milo was curious, though... he watched the whole thing, and he- he's been spouting some really disturbing theories."

Clare frowned, sipping her tea. "Like what?" She tried to hide the way she felt her heartbeat speed up, she tried to prevent her body from betraying her fear - but seeing Maria's response, she failed miserably.

"He thinks it's something supernatural."

"He's lost his mind." Clare stated it, but didn't sound convinced.

"Yeah, I've been telling him," Maria sighed, "but he's very certain about it."

"And what kind of supernatural is he thinking?"

"Vampires."

Clare stared at Maria as if she grew a second head.

"Vampires?"

Maria nodded.

"Bloodsucking, coffin dwelling, allergic to sunlight vampires?"

"Yeah."

"Oh, he's gone mad." This time she did believe it. Of all things that could have been on camera, a vampire definitely wasn't it.

"Yeah, and the worst thing is, he's not the only one. Do you know those comicbookstore kids?"

Clare grimaced. Those kids were annoying. They weren't necessarily trouble, but something about them rubbed her the wrong way. Something wasn't quite right about them. Maybe, she thought, maybe they were aliens - at least if she stuck to the supernatural topic, it made sense. Or maybe their parents Frankensteined them together. She didn't know, and wondered why she should care. They were just kids, right? Also, she wondered as she played with one of her rings, what did they have to do with this?

"They are convinced that there are werewolves here, in Santa Carla."

"Werewolves?" Clare thought about it, sighing. "As if! Can you imagine? Every full moon would be a massacre!"

"Yeah, we have decided that we no longer allow them to borrow those horrormovies. I dont know where their parents are, but if they dont give their kids any guidance, we will."

"That should be our slogan!" Clare chuckled as she put her cup down, entering the workfloor. She felt better about it now, eventhough any mention of the tape wzs enough to get her to spiral. But for now it didn't matter, she thought to herself as she put some tapes back in the right place. What mattered now was making some money, and paying her tuition.

"I thought I heard some feminine squeeling!" Milo popped up from behind a cabinet filled with tapes. Clare gave him an uninpressed look, before responding.

"I thought I heard some sexist comment!"

"Is he bothering you, Clare?"

The girl practically jumped out of her skin as she heard the voice of her boss behind her. "Max. Hi! Eh-" she looked a little puzzled, "Milo was just -"

"Being Milo, I presume? We talked about that," Max turned to the young man. "You can't bother every new employee until they leave."

"The more people you hire, the less shifts I can work," he grumbled, albeit obviously done in a teasing manner.

"If you need money, you need to work the nightshifts."

Max was about to walk to the back, when it dawned on Clare what he had just said. She quickly walked after him, stopping him before he could enter his office.

"Max, I was wondering, ehm," she sighed, suddenly finding herself to be slightly nervous, "if maybe I could pick up some nightshifts?"

"When I hired you, you were very clear you didn't want to work nights." Max frowned.

"I know, and I still rather not. Santa Carla is not the safest place to be as a single woman at night. But, I need to pay my tuition, and I just desperately need the money..."

Max motioned for her to follow him into his office. He sat behind his desk, she sitting down across from him.

"I didn't know you studied."

"Yeah, I'm working on a bachelor of journalism, with a focus on art and popculture."

"What would you like to do with it?" Max offered her a gumdrop, which she politely refused.

"I'd love to write reviews for theatre and movies, or do some research on those topics. It's a part of journalism that's not taken as serious as some others, like politics, but I think art can show you a lot about what people are actually dealing with."

"Well said. Let me tell you what I have in mind," Max grabbed a piece of paper Clare recognised. It was a contract, like she had signed when she was hired. "You work two nights, one with Maria, the other with me. The other two days, you work your usual shift. If you get all your points this semester, I'll give you a 10% bonus."

Clare looked at him with wide eyes, shock written all over her face.

"That's - that... thank you!"

"No problem, dear. Times are tough out there for the young ones. Us elder folks should help them where we can."

"This really means a lot. Thank you." Clare grinned brightly, shaking his hand before walking out of the room.

Max sighed, writing down the alterations of their contract. He was glad he could help her, yet a part of him felt rather annoyed. Apparently things were so dire that a girl had to work at times she was uncomfortable with, simply because life became to expensive. It was rather unfair. He grabbed his agenda, writing down a new item on his to do lost:

Remind the boys that they must not eat new employees.

warning about the plagiarist @/sophiasficarchive

i hate to give her attention, but i’ve been told that she’s started changing the timestamps on her posts to make it look like she posted the fics first.

these screenshots were shared with me. they were both taken today, note the time in the corner.

i don’t want you guys to worry. she’s obviously already been discredited, and she won’t be able to gaslight anyone just because she knows how to use a simple tumblr function. i’ve also taken screenshots and a screen recording of her entire blog with the timestamps that are currently available, so she can’t truly erase this. but i want everyone to be aware.

for those whose fics have been stolen, i recommend submitting a DMCA request. you include the link to the work that you're accusing of infringement and then a link to you own original work. you do have to provide some personal details below but it's essentially because you're making a legal claim against copyrighted material and infringement of intellectual property.

hope this helps

Hi uhm random thought I had a while back about Marko and Paul and felt like sharing

I feel like Paul is like one of those big fucking dogs who think they're a lap dog and can and will place his entire 6'3 self onto Marko as if he is a mere chihuahua

Had to re-upload this one again, because the sideblog didn't work out as intended...

Paul x Dwayne from the Lost Boys, because i can and i will 🦇♥️🦇 uncensored as always on my bsks ;)

I am truly sorry Warhammer fans, you will now have to suffer some Vampire smut from time to time here. But don't worry, the Marine Meat will never leave ;)

Absolutely crazy to me that the pro AI people nearly always think creative stuff is a chore that a machine needs to do instead of something that is actually fun.

I need pro-AI people to understand that when creatives say, "Make AI do my chores so I can create more," the creative stuff is not the chore.
