I cannot love this moth enough, camo bugs are my favourite bugs ever.

It's too stormy to put the moth trap on right now - had to pack it away to keep it safe in the gale. Poor moths out there, I hope they're hiding in sheds and log-piles and other safe places.

Spot the moth 4: Eudocima phalonia by Inglourious reptiles

This is a species of fruit-piercing moth. Although the internet loves fruit-piercers best for their starry-sky-patterned caterpillars, the adults also have amazing leaf camo patterns. Also look at those beautiful big eyes and tiny tufty punk hair. A+ camo moth, wouldn't spot it on leaf, but would love to have a Eudocima patterned coat for hiding out in the woods in autumn. & May we all one day have hair so amazing.

No tasty moths here. Just leaf. Move along please, move along...

Many green moths seem to disappear on leaves. Some like this one also have a pattern of speckles or blotches, which might help them blend in even more by mimicking the damage or dirt that can appear on leaf surfaces.

It's kinda weird how some people don't see moths as colourful, or complain they're all brown and dull. I mean this one is very green and I'm pretty sure green is a colour. Many brown moths also have intricate and beautiful patterns on them I'll have you know. There are many green moths, and also many smol brown butterflies but no-one is saying butterflies aren't colourful. Butterflies just have better PR I think.

Anyway. Just because a moth has great camo doen't mean it isn't colourful. Thank you from the moth promotional board.

Been making some dark madder pink paint, so thinking about how I've used madder & alizarine in the past. This is an imaginary studio-dwelling leaf insect, drawn over and in alizarine paint and oil-based pencils 💚🌿

Blue-green ink-mimic moth, gilded with real gold leaf

I’ve been making my own art-board type things with archival paper and neutral adhesive. They’re really nice to draw on and work well when gilded and varnished (they don’t scan so well after gilding tho)
