Good morning friends - lime hawkmoth, this is not a drill, I repeat, lime hawkmoth!
It's InverteFest week and look at this chonky jet-plane-looking pal that dropped by the moth trap! Here it is in the classic tail-up "you woke me TF up when??" pose. Sorry little buddy. Wouldn't fly off, so we coaxed it on to a tree & I'm hanging around so that it doesn't get picked off by a bird (although it's reasonably well hidden, but I worry... I have coffee and mini-eggs though, so it's all good.)
Moth trapping is a way to record and release local insects, no moths are hurt and they all get released afterwards (I try to put them somewhere well hidden though because of hungry birbs.)
Behold the adorableness of this nut-tree tussock moth and let your Monday be improved.
Moths are important pollinators who take over the night shift when bees go to bed. Look how fluffy it is - basically a tiny flying kitten that pollinates your garden!

Red-green carpet being photobombed by a common quaker.
I don't know whether carpets are called that because they're patterned like carpets, or cos they're very flat. But you could base a pretty fkn fancy carpet pattern on thissun.
Another one with caterpillars that eat oaks, & also mountain ash. Look after local trees & you look after bugs, birds, fungi, lichen, and all the other wildlife connected to them.
Thank you from the Moth Promotional Board ✨🦋🐾🛹✨
Politely requesting that you pause and behold the utterfuckingly delightful frosted green moth that visited me this morning.
Look at its little face! The stripey socks! So fluffy!! The world is on fire, but moths exist; see them and know there are still good things for you to keep existing for too.
The caterpillars of this moth eat oak leaves. Another reason to look after local street oaks, & protect even small areas of trees. Where I live, developers have been successfully taken to court for deliberately damaging protected oaks. So it's worth reporting damage!

Good moth friend alert: spotted today, a super-fuzzy pale brindled beauty (I think) on nice lichen. My 1st moth of 2025!
That is all, please go about your evening, thank u.
Behold the majestic floof of this canary-shouldered thorn moth and let your Monday be that little bit more bearable.
The food plants of this ridiculously fluffy species are birches, goat willow, and alders; to help look after it please look after local trees. If you're in the UK like me, please report any damage to urban trees your council.
Thank you from the Moth Promotional Board ✨🦋✨
Look at this adorably fluffy beast that visited me this morning!
It's basically a tiny flying kitten that pollinates plants by night! I try to meet people where they are when it comes to liking bugs... But when I see moths like this nut-tree tussock, I'm baffled how moths aren't more popular. I mean look at it's stripey little legs! 🥹
Also visiting this morning; brimstone moth, a year round moth buddy, and Hebrew character, a classic spring species.
If you love tiny flying kittens, look after your local green spaces where their food plants grow. Even if you aren't able to volunteer/take part in maintenance work, you can encourage your council to mow/prune green areas with bug life in mind, and report any damage to trees and shrubs that feed many species.
Thank you from the Moth Promotional Board ✨🦋✨
Please enjoy the delightful antennas of these male spongey moths while I wait for spring and moth season.
This species is a relatively infrequent visitor in my area of the UK. In some countries/regions it's considered a pest on trees, but it's not reportable here - so these glorious beasts went on their way after I logged their visits
May we all have moments of looking this magnificent 💖🦋
It's Monday. Please enjoy this moth and its delightful hyaline wing-windows 🦋💖
I couldn't find an English language common name for this species, so I made one up (it apparently feeds on durian foliage.)
Invertebrate friends, if you know any other common names for this species in any languages you could translate for me, please let me know!
It's gonna be a few until moth season starts again, but I'm looking forward to seeing more of these delightfully tetchy furious grass veneers 😡🌾🦋 among the larger macro moths this year. Best moth facial expressions. 11 out of 10, would recommend.
These moths are an important part of my local urban ecosystem. To help moths like these, pls leave a little grass unmown if you're lucky enough to have a garden. Thank you from the Moth Promotional Board ✨🦋✨

Look at this magnificent fluffy beast. May your year be blessed with all the soft flying kittens (aka moths) that you need <3
