The idea that Wizard Mites are a specific species of intelligent parasite that feeds on magic is a misconception.

The reality is that after a few years practicing magic, the existing, mundane mites that already live on your skin and in your hair have simply absorbed enough residual thaumic energy that they spontaneously become sentient and begin to self organize into societies.

The notion that they feed off magic came about because wizards infested with particularly hostile mites have little choice but to stop practicing magic entirely. This only really occurs in the case that multiple mite empires on a single wizard are at war with each other and have developed weapons destructive enough to threaten the health of the wizard herself. If the wizard is unable to step in and broker a peace, her best course of action is to commence a spell-fast and starve the mites of the magic residue which grants them their intelligence. The mites don’t literally starve, of course, they just revert to their pre-uplift animal state, at which point the wizard can always resume her regular activities and hope for a more agreeable sociopolitical situation when the next crop of mite societies emerge.

Non-magical onlookers encountered spell-fasting wizards and without full context assumed the mites robbed them of their magical ability, and thus the “magic parasite” concept was born. But the reality is that in most cases a wizard and her mites have a mutualistic relationship and can even act as collaborators. Wizards have been known to coauthor grimoires with their mites or send their mites on covert missions to rivals’ eyelashes as spies.

This post proving once again that wizards will go to almost any lengths to avoid taking a bath

My contribution to the Poirot Big Bang event by @babystarbeam!

It’s a simple piece, but one I wanted to evoke the feeling of lonesome Poirot. We all love a good Poirot & Hastings dynamic, but for me, Poirot has a whole different vibe when he’s alone, that is truly unique to him and separates him from his predecessors and inspirations. Specifically the stories where he’s among a cast of complete strangers, and sometimes he’ll come across an old friend like Ariadne Oliver, Colonel Race, Bouc or Superintendent Battle.

everyone give thanks to the middle eastern and north african people of over ten thousand years ago for domesticating the african wildcat and providing the entire world with some of the best pets ever 🙏🙏🙏 it was probably the best idea any human has ever had.

you can honestly tell that this is the ancestor of all domestic cats. look at it. just a lil tabby cat. with long long legs.

there’s definitely a gulf between someone who knows how to play chess and someone who plays chess, but it’s nothing compared to scrabble

specifically, “uwu” is being added to the international english scrabble dictionary, which is apparently a big deal because uuw is a terrible tile combination otherwise

I tried to write an essay about competitive scrabble but got so overwhelmed by it I stopped. But its insane.

So for most players, the challenge of Scrabble is just thinking of words, but at high level its literally not a problem. Instead it plays more like a card game where player's share a deck.

Each bag contains a known number of pieces. Players card count to figure out what letters are left to be played. Players have biases towards certain words. You can earn points but you can also block point squares with ridiculous words.

So you can place a word with the intention of preventing your opponent from playing a word they're statistically likely to play into a high points square because you know there are no loose 'o's left in the bag.

Its hard to imagine that these strategies could exist at all, and yet they're executed with precision.

Picking My Favorite Frame From Each Gundam Wing Episode: Episode 33

[<<Prev][Next>>]

This shot of the force organization Romefeller is bringing to the Luxembourg battle includes some normal symbols (infantry, engineering, air defense, artillery) but also what appears to be "infinity attack" in the support forces along with the medics, bridging unit (?), infinity bridging unit(???), and infinity armor unit. HQs are in the third frame on the bottom of the org chart ('where they belong', according to a friend).

uhh if you want actual animation instead of bizarre background stuff there's also this:
