I don’t know why that affected me so strongly, but I’m watching a youtube video on disasters on Lake Huron, and the first one involves a coal freighter that was lost in the White Hurricane of 1913 called the SS Argus. Everyone on the ship was lost. But it’s mentioned that the captain’s body washed up later, and was found without a life jacket. So they thought, based partly on testimony of another ship that thought they saw them go down, that it just happened too fast for him to have time to get his jacket. But then another body was found, that of the second cook, and she was found wearing the life jacket marked ‘captain’. And that’s …

It didn’t work. It didn’t save her. But it’s so very possible that he spent his last moments alive trying to save someone else, one of his crew, and they probably both knew that it wouldn’t work, that there wasn’t a lot of hope in a blizzard on the lakes in November, but he tried … he tried anyway. Even if it did nothing but maybe make her body easier for her family to find.

You know that Mr Rogers thing of ‘look for the helpers’? How many times has someone, facing the end, done something tiny and fragile and maybe hopeless just to try and help someone else? Whether it works or not. How many people went to their graves at least trying?

That has to say something about us. As a people. As monstrous as we sometimes (perhaps often) are, so many times we were also …

Whoever saves one life, saves the whole world.

And sometimes you can’t save one life, sometimes it doesn’t work, sometimes there’s no getting out of this for anyone, but … try anyway. Because it matters anyway.

And maybe no one will ever know. But maybe also some day more than a century down the line, maybe some idiot will be crying into her coffee because of what you died trying.

Velvette: Yeah my sexual awakening was slave Leia, who was yours Val?
Valentino: Oh it was that TV host my mama and sisters were mad about. Vincent Whittman.
Velvette: Wait you mean the serial killer? I watched a document about him, he killed famous people and declared their deaths on his news channel like a sociopath.
Valentino: Oh kinky… maybe I’ll find him and fuck him to piss Vox off. He won’t like that.
Velvette: No he won’t hahahah. But god, didn’t he die in the most fuckass way?
Valentino: Oh my god yes, a TV falling to his…
Both, looking at suspiciously quiet Vox:
Vox:
Vox: In my defence, it was an accident, I wasn’t actually going to kill myself.

I really like how the characters in Hazbin are so forgiving.

Angel Dust started talking trash about the hotel and everyone immediately said “that mf is brainwashed. Let’s go get his ass” lmaooo. Nobody even entertained the idea that he just turned on them

Or Velvette and Valentino saying “yeah, we’re gonna fuck Vox up… and hopefully he’ll chill out and we can all be friends again”

It’s very sweet

at the risk of being cringe with everything going on — this week, the last six months, the past five years — i keep thinking about that one quote from the great gatsby

“they were careless people…they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made.”

it’s just every day now, huh.

I find it incredibly fascinating that despite their dispositions, Endeavor is generally shown to be a better team player than All Might. While it's true that All Might really only has two types of fights- stomps or almost losses- and it can be argued that he doesn't really need the help, it says something that Endeavor, who is the only other person to have almost killed AfO outside of OfA users, whose fights basically also go a similar way, instead chooses to build infrastructure, essentially.

Judging by his numbers and how it runs, his support structure/agency is more efficient than All Might's. The numbers might be a bit fudged because All Might is a single man and Endeavor actually team plays, but the point stands. He is, genuinely, a large net positive for Japan's heroics industry (if you ignore the Hellish Todoroki Family TM) because he's actively got a team of heroes that he leads/mentors instead of an agency that's meant to mainly support his efforts. Those people later go on to become competent heroes in their own right, or mentor other people, or maybe found their own agencies.

For all their philosophies might say, for all that Toshinori's is built on inspiring others and Enji's is fundamentally selfish, it is Endeavor that builds more people up for the majority of their careers, not All Might.

Which is, if nothing else, incredibly ironic.

Have you guys noticed how much the internet/technology just does not listen to you anymore? I click “don’t show this artist” on Spotify and I get recommended a music video by them on the front page. I click “skip this update” on a pop up every time I open a file organization app and it’s right back there every time. O click unsubscribe on a newsletter and it keeps showing up in my inbox!! I click “delete my account” and the next time I open the website they suggest I “reactivate”.

Power is a funny thing.
