*sits bolt upright at three am* They're called benders because they bend the elements to their will.

Quebec Premier François Legault announced his resignation Wednesday morning from the National Assembly. Legault faced steep competition ahead of fall elections in the province, as his Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ) party fell in the polls while the Parti Québécois under Paul St-Pierre Plamondon rose to prominence. The premier was elected for two majority mandates in 2018 and 2022. Legault says he will stay in place as premier until the CAQ elects a new leader.

A young protester in Santa Ana is permanently blind in one eye after being hit in the face at close range by a “nonlethal” round fired by a Department of Homeland Security agent last week amid nationwide protests against an immigration agent’s killing of US citizen Renee Good in Minneapolis.

According to a report from the Los Angeles Times on Tuesday, the 21-year-old “underwent six hours of surgery and... doctors found shards of plastic, glass, and metal embedded in his eyes and around his face, including a metal piece lodged 7 mm from a carotid artery.”

His aunt, Jeri Rees, told the Times that doctors feared removing the shrapnel from her nephew’s face, concerned it could kill him, and that he had also suffered a skull fracture around his eyes and nose and had permanently lost vision in his left eye.

If ICE and DHS personnel do not suffer consequences for their maiming and killing people they don’t like, they will continue to commit acts of violence with increasing impunity.

there's this phenomenon i've noticed on youtube which i dub "man math" which is when men STEM-ify hobbies/activities/art forms in order to make them more masculine. it's very noticeable in the cooking video sphere where there's an endless stream of videos made by men along the lines of "the SCIENTIFICALLY PROVEN best way to cook an egg" (and dgmw, i watch them and find them helpful, but the observation stands), but i notice it also in the way men approach ceramics (a lot of focus on mold-making and slip-casting to perfection, basically reinventing one man mass-production rather than play and discovery), tailoring/sewing/knitting/textile art, gardening and other nature-oriented hobbies, interior decor, furniture making and woodworking, journaling/planning/productivity, even drawing and painting, there's always some man math angle to it that although interesting it often strikes me as some sort of overcompensation to move away from the inherent vulnerability that comes with art making and once you notice it it's literally everywhere

why are there like 20 heroes in gotham now. can someone go help chicago? toronto? the detroit-windsor international metropolitan area? there are only three islands in gotham city man you don't need to be there it's handled. it's fine. you are not needed. why don't you go become the hero of some city you'd actually be helpful in. go to fucking. saskatoon. go save the noble and helpless people of saskatoon

btw "wanting to be seen as desirable by men" is not inherently a sign of internalized misogyny. it is in fact normal to want people you are attracted to, to be attracted to you. if someone is attracted to men & wants men to find them attractive, that is entirely normal.

the reason it is often intertwined with internalized misogyny, is because for many people who are seen or see themselves as women, "being desirable by [cis] men" is a priority akin to food and shelter, something they revolve their entire identity and self-worth and life plan around, oftentimes to the extent that they don't even fully understand their own desires and if men are even a part of the picture because the impetus to be desirable comes before their desires were fully expressed.

similarly, "decentering men" is not about never having a person who is a man be a major priority in your life. the problem with "centering men" is that it is intended to describe how people who are seen or see themselves as women, again, are coerced into constructing their entire sense of self and life plan around their current or future husband/sons/brothers/father/etc. with the implicit assumption in themselves & the men in their lives that it is natural and normal for them to prioritize their male loved ones over anything, including & especially their own personhood and wellbeing.

i think it is actually quite important to be clear & nuanced about these pop culture feminism phrases, because they can very easily be part of the slip n' slide into heteropessimism and female separatism, which are not only deeply unhelpful and generally quite racist, but also serves to drive away many women who need feminism the most because they feel like feminism demands a disconnection from their partners and children and family and friends who are men, and/or that their desires are innately wrong, which obviously is not going to be conducive to them developing a feminist consciousness.

god I wish I had a pair of menacing black gauntlets with really sharp fingertip claws I bet it feels good as fuck to have your hands resting palm-down on a surface and then scratch some deep fucking gashes into it as you clench your hand a little closer to a fist when your evil minion delivers some bad news to you

ohhh fuck yeah, you understand

There are ten trillion pictures of flowering trees to the point where they sometimes seem trite and overdone. But then you see a tree in full flower and go holy shit this rules and I've gotta show this to everyone so they can experience the same magic and wonder and there are ten trillion and one pictures of flowering trees

Thinking back to the first story I ever started writing down (I was 7 or 8) about a group of stray cats who, every full moon, took the form of human kids. They actually were human kids, who had been killed (all at different times/by different people). Their bodies were each dumped by the side of the road where a cat had been hit by a car previously, and their souls landed in the cats' bodies. Eventually they all found each other and decided that every full moon, when they shifted, they'd try to solve each other's murders one by one. It was going to be a series, with each book focusing on a different kid's murder mystery. I told my mom about it once, briefly, and she said "Those cat books (warrior cats) are making you creepy."

Just finished writing this manuscript, the first story I ever started. 23 years in the making. Never give up, even if your mom calls you creepy 🖤

NEVER GIVE UP PEOPLE WE’RE GONNA GET THE STRAY CATS AND DEAD KIDS STORY
