other people, intellectuals: *some drollery about cats, so independent and aloof*
my cats: Mother, did you see me? I did a thing, were you watching? Come into the garden, Mother, for the sun shines brighter on the grass when you are there. Mother, if I don’t crack open your chest and sleep nestled inside your ribs tonight I might literally die. Mother. Mother. Did you see me, Mother?
I totally understand Brownies (from Fairy lore) now
for those who don’t know what Brownies are; they’re smallish fae spirits that do household chores around the house (or barn if you’re a farmer) while you’re asleep. They’re depicted as small men or funky little furry creatures.
They do things like sweeping, dusting, and laundry. In return they expect just a simple meal and for you to leave them alone. However, if you try to pay them or give them clothes they feel insulted and leave.
When I heard about Brownies growing up and chores were daunting and draining I was like??? why wouldn’t you want to get paid??? Isn’t it a bit rude of them?? That’s an overreaction to being given money and/or fresh clothes. That person was just trying to be nice!!
now i’m like
-Oh, my sister wasn’t able to do all of her laundry before work! I’mma just finish it up before she gets home :)! -I’m gonna vacuum today, I know it’s been stressing my sister out how dirty the carpet is -I have energy to reorganize the pantry! I’m doing that so I can cross off another big chore off the list!
I like making people’s lives easier by doing tasks when they’re away.
I can see why a Brownie would be insulted by being gifted money. They don’t want these tasks to be work. They just want to be appreciated. When they’re given money, these tasks go from being small gestures of kindness to something that is expected. Gifts and gestures are so much easier to perform if you know its going to be a surprise.
From an adhd point of view, I can see why a Brownie would be insulted by being gifted new clothes. It insinuates that the Brownie can’t take care of themself. I do sometimes struggle to maintain healthy habits but I’m not gross. If it was an actual problem that is enough of a motivator to get me to change my ways. From the Brownie’s perspective, they’re doing just fine and they don’t appreciate you implying they can’t take care of themselves.
or maybe there are confirmed explanations of why Brownies don’t like money or new clothes that I didn’t find in my brief research– but the above two points are from my personal experience.
Brownies just want to help make your stressful life easier, and in return they just want a cup of hot chocy and maybe a small chat after you get home from work
Holy shit how am I just now realising @one-time-i-dreamt is a blog for SUBMISSIONS of dreams ppl had and not just someone having the wildest dreams 24/7
I'm kept locked up in a laboratory 24/7 while tests are being done on me to make me dream 0-24h, and the one typing up my dreams is the computer I'm plugged into
I know "stealing content from social media willy nilly" is kind of how places like People magazine keep a flow of content, but the new drama is that the writer who does solely this (Ashley Vega) stole a story from a DV survivor on reddit who was asking for advice and published it as an "article" (she copy pasted the story and a few reddit comments)
When the DV victim asked her to please take it down, because she was afraid of her abusive ex finding her, Ashley Vega blocked her and deleted any comments about how the victim actually really wants the story taken down for her own safety.
idk the point of this, other than it feels so gross to me that people just stole some poor woman's trauma for money and don't even have the grace to take it down, especially since those "articles" aren't exactly hard or time consuming to write.
The story is still up btw. People's response was basically "Sucks to suck" Ashley Vega is an absolute scumbag and disgusting human being.
She just put out another "article" without removing the one about the domestic abuse victim if you wanna leave a few comments
giant redwood trees really are so cool, they just have something incredibly special going on. it's hard to describe if you haven't seen them
a certain je ne sequoia, if you will
12,000 PEOPLE KILLED IN TWO NIGHTS. FOR NO FUCKING REASON AT. ALL. FUCK THE IRGC FUCK KHAMENEI FUCK THE IRANIAN ISLAMIC REGIME. FREE IRAN!
To be clear this happened THURSDAY AND FRIDAY. It is now TUESDAY. Who fucking knows what has happened the past three nights. If it's continued at this rate that would be 30,000 dead.
PSA: Just a friendly reminder that whenever you start a creative project, you will invariably hit a phase where the Thing™️ appears horrendous and you start asking existential questions. But if you keep working, it invariably passes and starts to resemble something less like the devil’s vomit. Doesn’t matter if it’s art, writing, or what–this happens repeatedly. Carry on.
This is a bit of advice I always pass on to people asking me about art. EVERY. SINGLE. PEICE. Every single one that I love I have at one point or another wanted to throw in the trash. Wanted to burn in a fire. Wanted to give up and leave it. The trick is to go “okay what is the worst part and how do I fix it” and just focus on that ONE thing. Then you do that again for the second worst. Then you do it again. And again. Until finally nothing needs fixing. And then it’s done and it’s beautiful.
If you dont love it, it’s not done yet. That’s all there is to it.
it is really cool that there is now an official maori word for autism, created with input from autistic maoris, and it was specifically coined to be nonjudgmental
quote from article:

by the way guys, this deployment of ice to minnesota is largest ever. more agents than chicago. we are a much less dense state. we are being inundated.
It is the largest Department of Homeland Security operation in history. And yet Minnesota’s Somali population (this operation’s primary target) is upwards of 90% naturalized American citizens. It’s even more of a manufactured crisis than most DHS operations. Genuinely living in Minnesota now feels like we’re a small country on the brink of invasion.
That is, in order, what you need to understand to get why this happens.
update from the discord group courtesy of one of my mutuals;
do not trust that damned survey. change your discord password. utilize 2FA.
I use 2FA on every website I log into, and it didn't ask for any details when I took the survey, but I still don't trust that thing at all. One can never be too safe.
whoops I accidentally double reblogged but:
hi, i did some research on this but this link was not phishing and here's why:
qualtrics is a legit website that companies pay to host data gathering surveys to collect metrics on various things. you can also create free surveys but from what i understand the survey results aren't as in-depth as the paid versions get you.
it looks like the survey originates from a banner on the discord app and you click on it and it takes you to the site and you do the thing there. it was only rolled out to a certain amount of people (for the purposes to maybe only get people they thought would be pro-AI? who knows with Discord) but was then passed around everywhere because Fuck AI. And then Discord realized that things weren't going the way they wanted and pulled the survery.
I did some further research on the URL itself:
From ESET link checker it rates it as safe, I also plugged it into a few others as well like Fortinet and Bitdefender and both of those came back safe too, here's a screenshot of ESET:
info on the link itself from urlvoid:
the actual qualtrics site info from urlvoid as well to compare the age of the domain (usually phishing domains are very very young and/or brand new and not legitimate domains but these are both legitimate domains.)
and, inb4 people say "phishing attempts don't always have to ask you to enter your login credentials to scrape your info"
no keyloggers or malware after I clicked on the link (it's been 8 hours now and my discord account is fine).
hopefully, this will quell some panic about the discord thing, its always good practice to protect your account with MFA when it's offered and to change your password when you suspect something may not be right, it's better to err on the side of caution etc, but in this case, it's alright and there's no need to create any undue panic about a link to a survey. fuck AI and Discord should know better than to try and pull more wool over its userbases' eyes because did they not learn from the NFT thing?
okey dokey bye bye now
some of you need to put down chat gpt and pick the magic 8ball back up
