no but literally they should've just destroyed hawkins instead. it would serve the same "purpose" as el's "death" but like, way better, and would (arguably) be just as devastating and bittersweet. like, think about it. the story ends and (almost) every location we ever spent time in is gone. mike's basement, the schools, hop's cabin, melvalds, the byer's house, all either destroyed or left behind. all the actual memories of childhood and the (uh) wonderful adventure we just went on (i guess), gone. left behind. and now our young heroes have to move on and find a life somewhere else in a new unfamiliar town, with new unfamiliar people. also, el loses her powers and is thrust into this new, big, scary world without the thing that she thought gave her purpose and strength. and she has to finally learn that it was never the powers that gave her strength, it was who she was, and now that she doesn't have an obvious purpose, she has to find a new one. gets to find a new one. because that's what growing up is. and even if its kinda scary and sad, it's all ok. because they get to do it together. like. you fucking see the vision.

no LITERALLY. Hawkins gets destroyed/becomes uninhabitable in the final fight and all the survivors are put in witness protection or some shit. to cover up what happened, Hawkins goes down in history as one of those ghost towns conspiracy theorists love, "it's like everyone here just VANISHED one day", that sort of thing. just vague stories of it being under a mysterious quarantine for 2 years before everyone living there seemingly vanished into the night. the only way you can ever find the REAL story of what happened in Hawkins is future Mike's books. this would 1000% do a better job of portraying the 'letting go of childhood magic but still remembering it bittersweetly' vibe the Duffer's wanted bc their childhood home is Literally gone. all of Them are gone and spread out with new names. but Mike still tells the story the best he can because it still happened and still mattered, even if in 50 years no one even remembers the town or the people that lived there at all, they still mattered and he memorializes them.

just thinking about dustin excitedly showing el all his weird ass creations and shes lowk so freaked about it but its ok because she grips his arm when things move and then he powers them off and lets her poke and inspect them until its deemed safe, and he explains how they work and then turns them on again and this time her eyes are wide with intrest and her grip isnt one of fear its one of excitement and then eventually (eventually!!) months down the line she helps him make stuff and its usually just her tightening screws with her mind or adjusting small parts but it’s something they do together and suddenly science isn’t something made to hurt her anymore
