if i think for too long about how VAL's introduction to both the characters and the audience is a scene where she's demonstrably proven to be capable of using the power of a god to force people to believe her lies, and therefore it's reasonable to conclude that you shouldn't believe a word she says and consider yourself lucky if you can still exercise that judgement, rendering her with effectively zero nonviolent or noninvasive options to convince people to listen to her, i start to feel so sick i can't move. here's the power to make anyone believe you, which means that no one will ever actually believe you!

i think it's really telling as well that carson immediately takes advantage of this to psychologically and sexually abuse shrue by using her as an objectified tool to achieve that. like idk it just says something that a man in a position of authority and near-total impunity's first assertion of that dominance and the threat it poses to his subjects should they consider openly questioning it is a blatantly misogynistic and extremely violating act of public humiliation using the mutilated body of a dehumanised woman.

Awhile ago I was struck by the similarity between fire towers and lighthouses, and wanted to capture that in a painting. Both are lonely, isolated structures that people tend to work alone, sometimes in extremely dangerous if not life threatening conditions. But fire towers are about warning people to run, about putting out a light that is a threat to people's safety. Lighthouses are sort of the opposite, drawing people in and guiding them to safety by keeping a light on instead of putting it out.

im going to SCREAM i saw somewhere that apparently legs has a higher (dead) body count than owen...

oh my god oh my god

imagine the town coming back from that confrontation in episode 3(? or 4?) telling legs how owen admitted to killing 2799 people and how hes a monster and awful and the town fully painting him as one of the "bad ones", and legs' heart just dropping because he knows. he knows if the town knew what he was really capable of, what he had done, they would shun him as they shun owen and oh my lawd that makes so much sense why hes trying to reach out to owen so kindly even after knowing this because he cant treat someone as a monster when he has been responsible for more death oh my good god I need to LIE DOWN. AND he is so insistent on Owen that he isn't automatically a monster, and its one's actions that take you there and isn't that so poetic when you think about legs' self image "i dont deserve eternity" and how he doesn't think he deserves the role of the town "hero". I fully believe v!Legs things he is a monster. And i also fully believe he believes he can save owen from that same fate. Or wants to, anywyas.

/ also do u maybe think a small reason why legs decided to lie about being a vampire, outside of the main reason to stop the vampires v human debate and unite the town against the castle vamps, was because he couldn't bear the thought that people see him as a hero. He has to be at least a little antagonistic because his past holds him to such a high level of guilt he wouldn't ever let anyone put him up on a pedestal of being a Good Person.
