Odds and... odds...

@thenightling

So many Neo-Pagans and some so-called modern witches (most of which never lived on actual forest land or an apple orchard) started to parrot beliefs they heard online that sounded "Deep" about how fallen fruit is "given" to you, and fell because it's "ready" but the living stuff is not for us humans or not ripe.

(To the people who keep repeating that nonsense) Honey, no. The vines and stems and branches keep the fruit healthy and alive until they're eaten. Not all hanging fruit is underripe. It's nature's preservative.

Eating fallen fruit you find on the forest floor = Yeah, have fun with that diarrhoea, Moon Child. Those of us with compromised immune systems because of autoimmune diseases have no interest in catching C-def (Clostridium difficile), worms, or other varieties of dysentery because you went to pretend the wind spirit gave you that half-rotten apple instead of the fresh one still on the tree. It's as bad as the ones saying to leave chocolate out as an offering. Sweets like honey on bread are fine but chocolate will kill a stray cat or dog.

And don't get me started on the people who soak their pumpkins in bleach or other chemicals to keep them from rotting. So much bad information from people who trust memes or Tik Tok for their forest / spiritual advice.

(End of rant.)

Pumpkin Magick

Pumpkin Magick

This is a revising of an older post since I learned some more pumpkin lore.

It's that time of year again so it is good to remember that your favorite decorative gourd is not only edible but also (if you believe in such things) a protection charm.

First, every component of the classic Pumpkin Spice mixture is a ward against evil and negativity and also an attractor for luck. This includes Cinnamon, Nutmeg, cloves, and ginger.

Not only that but you will find that for over a decade now most pumpkin spice confections, at least in the USA, contain actual pumpkin, whether dried pumpkin or pumpkin puree. In the US it's very hard (today) to find a pumpkin spice beverage or confection without actual pumpkin as an ingredient now.

Once upon a Time Pumpkin Spice used to just mean the spice mixture one adds to Pumpkin Pie but after Starbucks started adding real pumpkin to their Pumpkin Spice latte, a trend was started that almost everything Pumpkin spice would now carry actual pumpkin.

Though incorporating actual pumpkin to the pumpkin spice confections is relatively new, the use of pumpkins for Halloween is not. And their protective power is old as well.

The flower of a pumpkin plant is a five-pointed star that blooms for only roughly thirteen hours out of a day. It will wither and fall away but regenerate until fertilized into a pumpkin or until the first frost. The five-pointed star is considered sacred geometry by the Ancient Greeks. It is Sacred to many NeoPagans, Druids, Wiccans, And Baha’i. It is also the ward against werewolves, demons, (and if you have faith in its power) against vampires as well as other supernatural threats. The five-pointed star is an ancient symbol for the elements of nature (Water, Fire, Earth, air, and spirit) and of magick as magick is the heart of nature. The fact that a pentacle is the shape of a pumpkin flower might be a subtle reason why the pumpkin was chosen as the jack-o-lantern of the new world. Similarly, apples were considered, by some, to have magical and sacred potential because if you cut them in half you could see a star formation at the core.

Many people who do not grow pumpkins don’t realize that the pumpkin flower is a five-pointed star (Pentacle) of yellow-orange golden color. The pumpkin flower, itself, is an ancient symbol if protection and magick.

It is believed that if you eat the stalk (stem) of a pumpkin you will be cursed to be a fool. Personally, I think that if you ate a pumpkin’s stem it may be a little late for that. You were already a fool. Try to only eat the flesh and seeds of a pumpkin, not the stem.

In China pumpkins are a symbol of fertility.

It is sometimes believed that giving a woman a pumpkin or something with a pumpkin depiction on it will aid in getting pregnant. Some women will eat pumpkin-based foods to try to improve chances of pregnancy. Pumpkins are a plant considered sacred to The Mother. Meanwhile pumpkin seeds or small, young pumpkins, represent The Maiden, and hollowed out pumpkins represent the crone of the Triple Goddess. But a whole pumpkin that is fresh and ripe is symbolically The Mother. While the pumpkin flower (a five pointed star that blooms for about thirteen hours at a time) represents magick itself.

When dust particles in the air give the full moon an orange-ish tint this is a pumpkin moon. A blood moon (lunar eclipse) may also be considered a pumpkin moon. A blood moon is believed to have wild magical energy.

One superstition in regard to pumpkins is that if you point at a growing pumpkin it will cause the spirit of the pumpkin to become bashful and shy and the pumpkin will start to rot.

Another superstition says it is best to plant pumpkins on good Friday however it is known that if you plant a pumpkin before the last frost of the season, it will die. Contradicting the notion of planting pumpkins on Good Friday is the rhyme “Plant Pumpkin Seeds in May and they’ll all run away. Plant Pumpkin Seeds in June and they will grow soon.”

If a cat eats pumpkin it will cure the cat of excessive hairballs.

It is believed that eating pumpkin will cure constipation.

Jack-o-lanterns have been a protection ward against wandering spirits for centuries. The Tale of stingy Jack says that he was a wandering soul not granted access to Heaven or Hell and The Devil and his minion laughed at him and tossed on an ember from Hell to light his way. Jack carved out a turnip to use as a lantern and placed the ember inside of it. But Jack was a coward so if he saw similar lanterns he'd flee an area. Over time the belief became that these carved turnips would ward off all wandering spirits and malevolent entities.

When the Irish came to America, they started to carve their Jack-o-lanterns out of pumpkins. Most pumpkins were larger and easier to carve. Also they taste better when cooked and incorporated into foods. It also became a common belief that the pumpkin worked just as well as (if not better than) turnip Jack-o-lanterns.

It is believed that on Halloween night Jack-o-lanterns provide the most protection though they can work all year long (so long as you can make one). If you keep a Jack-o-lantern lit all night long it promises good luck for the year. If it burns out before midnight (however) or if it is blown out, that invites wandering ghosts into your home and possible bad luck. This is why you should never blow out a Jack-o-lantern's candle but instead let it burn out naturally.

It is believed that if you carry a Jack-o-lantern (or even just a replica of one) with you on Halloween it will protect you from wandering ghosts while out and about. A lit one is best but a depiction of one on clothes or jewelry, or an artificial Jack-o-lantern also works. This may be the unconscious reason so many traditional trick or treat buckets are made to resemble Jack-o-lanterns. This superstition works for any hollowed-out pumpkin or something resembling it carried on Halloween. This may also include a small artificial pumpkin.

And finally we have Pumpkin seeds.

It is believed that eating pumpkin seeds will cure an “excessively passionate nature.” Whether this means carnal urges or intense emotions is unclear. There have been real studies into pumpkin seeds’ ability to reduce anxiety and depression. Eating roasted pumpkin seeds or pepitas (small roasted pumpkin seeds) can possibly work as a mild mood stabilizer and sleep aid.

It's an old Eastern European belief that a pile of grain or seeds might distract a vampire, who will feel compelled to count the seeds rather than prey on the intended victim. There was the great New England Vampire panic in the late eighteenth century and nineteenth century.

Many Native Americans considered pumpkin to be one of the "three sisters" as important as corn and beans. Not only was it a source of nutrition but it was thought that pumpkin could keep away some pests and pumpkin seeds were used in medicine.

It is scientific fact that L-tryptophan is found in pumpkin seeds. This is a natural sleep aid and mood booster. A mild, natural, anti-depressant. Eating roasted pumpkin seeds or pepitas (small pumpkin seeds) can help drive away sleeplessness and negativity.

Negatively a superstition has it that if you feed a cow pumpkin seeds the cow will stop producing milk.

An old superstition is that if you eat pumpkin seeds it will cure worms and intestinal parasites. Since pumpkin is high in fiber and considered a natural stool softener and can aid in constipation it could be that this belief comes from pumpkin helping to expel the infection.

So there you have it.

Pumpkins (in the modern version of the Pumpkin spice mixture that contains pumpkin too) works as a ward against evil.

Carved Pumpkin Jack-o-lanterns drive away wandering spirits and malevolent entities.

Pumpkin seeds can ward off vampires, aid with sleep, and improve mood- driving away negative feelings.

Pumpkins may be "basic" but there is a practical magick to them.

Happy Equinox!

Happy Equinox everyone!   This week is The Autumn Equinox.  Day and night are perfectly even and soon darkness shall over-power light.

Persephone has returned to her husband.

Happy Mabon to all Wiccans.   And also tonight is the full moon.

The Facebook page "Secrets of the occult" literally just posted a meme mocking "Spiritual Karens" for correcting posts.   This same page, in question, once shared the Alcoholics Anonymous Serenity Prayer as a Wiccan Prayer and a slightly re-worded Amazing Graze as a spell...

Sexist agism or agist sexism as a mask for insecurity for posting stupidity disguised as occult / Pagan content?

I swear the term Karen is just used now to shame and shut up women.  I mean you're a Karen now for correcting a Pagan page?!

Things you need to ask about “Shifting realities.”

1.  Have you ever heard of Lucid Dreaming?

And do you know what what Lucid Dreaming entails?   Lucid Dreaming is where you enter a dream state and take control of your dream. It can feel tactile and real to you, right down to cobblestones under your feet.  You can add depth, substance, smells, and influence personalities of the characters in your dream and the dialogue.

You can easily lose control of a Lucid Dream, especially if you are new to it.   Bad things can happen to you or the other characters.  Why would you want that to have actually happened somewhere?

2.  Why does no one seem to notice that a lot of the methods for Shifting are strikingly similar to methods of Lucid Dreaming?

I strongly suspect a lot of “Shifters” chafe at even humoring the idea that what they are doing is Lucid Dreaming and so don’t look into Lucid Dreaming, especially since it has been drilled into them that if they doubt they are shifting they won’t be able to do it.  This seems to be a malicious effort to keep the “shifter” from finding out that what they are doing are common exercises for helping induce a Lucid Dream.

3.   Is the fact that it felt like hours but only minutes passed in this world proof that it really happened?

No.  Time moves differently in a dream.  That’s how dreams work. Ten minutes in the waking world could feel like hours or days in a dream.  Or what feels like a few minutes in a dream might be eight hours in The Waking World.   Those of you who bring up the time displacement thing…  have you …never dreamed before?

4.  If you are “shifting while awake” have you ever heard of the concept of Maladaptive Daydreaming?

Maladaptive Daydreaming is a potentially unhealthy form of daydreaming in which reality and fantasy blur and you forget that you are in your own head.  It is often the result of emotional trauma and need of escapism.

5.  Have you ever heard of Transliminality?

Transliminality is a sort of half-awake state where you can control a pseudo-dream-state. You induce that “Grey” state between The Waking World and The Dreaming world and then play with it.  It’s similar to Lucid Dreaming but not quite.  It can stimulate creativity and belief in the paranormal and is brought about by meditation and sometimes breathing techniques.

The concept of transliminality was coined by a parapsycholist and deals with a mental ‘Threshold” where you are on the brink of accessing your own subconscious and can potentially alter your own mental state.   Lucid Dreaming is not necessarily a transliminal expereince but there are similarities.  Transliminal experiences are usually brought about when one is “half-asleep” and can induce experiences and sensations similar to Lucid Dreaming.

6.  Why is it easier to believe you are taking God-like dominion of an alternate universe where your favorite fantasy characters are real than it is to believe you are lucid dreaming or having a maladaptive daydream?

Why would you rather believe you gained God-like control over an entire other universe than simply appreicate that your own imagination might be that good and that vivid?  Lucid Dreaming is wonderful.  It’s nothing to be ashamed of.   It practically is another universe with how real it can be made to feel but without the consequence of manipulating the lives of others to suit your whims.  Do you really want to think of yourself as essentially doing what Wanda did to that town in WandaVision?

There are even some theories dating back to the indigenous Australian people’s belief in Australia and Ancient Greece that the realm of dreams IS another dimension and you can collectively dream with others or dream-walk into the dreams of other individuals.   Just because something is a dream doesn’t mean it isn’t real.   Why is it so horrible to consider that you might be Lucid Dreaming?

Lucid Dreamers are creative.  They’re artists.  They’re writers.  They’re poets.   They’re dreamers.  To convince yourself you are just traversing the multiverse does a disservice and diminishes your own perception of how creative you truly are.

7.  Doesn’t the idea that any teenager can take God-like control of another universe terrify you in the least?

There seems to be a large community of (mostly) teens who think they are not only shifting but controling / scripting these other universes.   Doesn’t that frighten you at all?  Think of the worst school bully, the snottiest Harry Potter fan, the most “Toxic of shipper” and now imagine them doing this, taking the reigns of the alternate universe just to make their favorite headcanons true. Maybe they’re sadists who like to see characters tortured and mutilated.   Why would you want to humor the idea of someone who is still emotionally and physically developing, with raging hormones, being able to do this?

8.   Are you actually aware of what a “quantum jump” is?

Before throwing around terms like “quantum jumping” to “prove” reality shifting is really happening or before you ask strangers to google the concept you should make sure you actually know what the concept entails.  Quantum jumping deals with the transition of a particle (atomic particle) from one quantum state to another.  Not complex organisms like human beings, not soul transference.  It was about particles. Particles.  You are not a particle.  You are bastardizing an actual concept in physics.

“Quantum leap” was a Scifi / fantasy TV series that ended with the main protagonist learning he was actually working for God, who briefly took the form of a bar tender.  Scott Bakula’s character was not a “reality shifter.”  The show Sliders doesn’t prove your case either.

It’s almost like someone used some pseudoscience technobabble to convince these kids of the validity of Shifting and most of them never checked to see what quantum jumping actually was but just thought it “sounds sciencey so it must be true.”

9.  Have you ever actually examined the so-called proof?

Some Shifters are using a certain “deleted CIA document” and similar as proof of shifting.  Here’s the thing.  That document, like the actual scientific term, was in regard to particle transference.  It was not about soul transference through meditation, not the transportation of a complex organism or spirit.  It was in regard to atomic particles.  If you have to ignore large chunks of your own “evidence” to make it prove your case… it doesn’t prove your case…

Yes, multiverse theory is a thing in theoretical physics and has been covered by such figures as the late Stephen Hawking.  Yes, it IS likely that for every possible outcome of an event there is a potential alternate universe. This is covered in theoretical physics.  However, there is nothing in the theory that says you are able to transfer your soul to your ideal reality where your favorite fictional characters are real and in easy reach.

The multiverse theory has been around for a long time.  The first pop culture fictional TV depiction of it was in the 1960s Soap Opera Dark Shadows where it was called Parallel Time.  There’s nothing wrong in the notion of multiverse.   It’s common in science fiction, comic books, TV, fantasy literature, films, and theoretical physics.  It is the idea of manipulating these realities, traveling to specific ones and controlling them that should be questioned.

And yes, the CIA did experiment with mind expansion, psychic powers, and astral projection. There are records of their astral projection experiments and even a comedic film about their psychic research called “Men who stare at goats.”

The CIA experimenting with astral projection is not the same as entering your favorite work of fantasy literature.

10.  Do you really believe there are ancient spiritual beliefs tied to reality shifting?

The notion that modern day “Shifting to… Hogwarts” has its roots in real spiritualism does a disservice to New Age religions and Neo Paganism.

Yes, meditative practices do have roots in religions such as Buddhism, along with astral projection and transcending to other dimensions or states of being, and this is a respected aspect of many religions including modern New Age beliefs and occult practitioners, HOWEVER and this is a big however…   there is no record of any of these beliefs leading to the “scripting” of a reality” or entering a universe where popular works of fiction are not only true but that you happen to be physically near the protagonists or favorite characters.

During the brief European, medieval, fascination with Eastern religions, occultism, and alchemy, you could find people like Doktor Johann Georg Faustus (basis for the legend of Faust) in Germany, writing grimoires where he claimed to have levitated a cloak, summoned demons, and done many strange things while meditating but he never once claimed he entered the world of Reynard The Fox.    During the late nineteenth century / early twentieth century occult craze, in the UK and USA, not even Alistair Crowley claimed he was entering Alice’s Wonderland, Oz, or the fantasy world from George MacDonald’s Lilith. The 1960s and early 70s resurgence of New Age meditative practices did not result in hippies believing they entered Middle Earth or Narnia.

11.   What is the Raven Method?

Terms like “The Raven Method” of meditation are thrown around.  Some people are trying to give it legitimacy since there is a Yoga position called the Raven pose.  In reality this “method” is the “Starfish position.”   You lay on the ground with your arms spread, and legs spread.

This “Raven” method was actually named for… wait for it… the DC comics character, Raven, from the Teen Titans comics…  but more precisely from the cartoon incarnation, probably because someone saw her meditating…

Conspicuously a raven is also the familiar of Morpheus, the living embodiment of Dreams, from Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman, which is now a series on Netflix.

12.  I felt Tingling and numb. Doesn’t that mean it works?

No.   Tingling and numbness is common if your blood is not circulating properly, which can and does happen if you’re in a starfish or “Raven” pose.  It can also be a sign of oncoming sleep-paralysis which is often experienced in the half-way state between sleep and waking, which can mean you have hit transliminality.

13.   Do you know what Confirmation-bias is?

Confirmation bias is when you deliberately distort results and evidence to make what you experienced more accurate to your preconceived notions and assumptions.  You see this often with religious people or people who desperately want to believe their previously established views are true.

There is a pressure in the “Shifting community” to believe completely and without question and this has actively discouraged people from looking into things like Lucid Dreaming or even the actual meaning of quantum jumping.

The fact that it is a persistent mantra that you must absolutely believe and without question is a serious red flag.  Anything that tells you that you mustn’t question things is a thing that most assuredly deserves to be questioned.

14.   Do you consider the moral implications of this belief?

First you would you be taking away free-will and agency from apparently “real people” to suit your “scripted” fantasy as a God-like presence in this other universe.  Then you would also (according to some shifters) be “leaving behind a clone” of yourself with your personality and memories to live your life for you while you’re in this other universe.  Some say this “clone” is only there while yoru body is unconscious but the implication is you create a spiritual duplicate of yourself who may not know they are a clone and probably has the same longing for this other universe you do.  And now you’ve trapped them in this world until they learn to shift.  And a perpetual cycle is born.

Not only that but if you are entering a corporeal body in that other universe what happens to the soul that was occupying that body?   Why don’t you care?   The want to be able to do this is borderline sociopathic when you consider what you even believe you’d be doing to others.

You’re creating a horror movie scenario where any teenager can become a cruel and petty God lording over a universe that just happens to have Draco Malfoy or The Witcher, X-Men or the cast of Carnival Row…

15.  What happens if a version of you from a world only slightly different from this one (i.e. the world where you ate strawberries for breakfast instead of pancakes) also wants to shift to the same universe?

Do you fight for control?  What happens then?

Why do none of you ask these questions?  Critical thinking is your friend.

To my followers: this is a LONG commentary on reality shifting. Feel free to do a few quick scrolls to go back to your regular feed 💙

Normally I don’t read these posts because they are often made to belittle people who believe in shifting and frankly, I don’t fuck with bashing other people’s beliefs (unless they are harmful to the people around them). However, I did read this one, went to the notes (holy shit, this is a warzone) and as someone who was (and somewhat still is) part of the shifting community, I have a few things to say.

(I did not want to reblog this bc it’s very lengthy and annoying for people who are not familiar with it, but op was yelling and insulting people for commenting instead of reblogging so blame them I guess idk)

I will be going point by point at first, then I will address some drama from the notes that caught my eye. Also, I will be switching between we and they bc I am not active in the community, but still somewhat keep up with it.

What I’m about to say are some common beliefs in the community. Not everyone will agree with these/think the same way and that is okay.

A few important things about me: I found out about shifting about a year ago and it peaked my interest because I’m interested in dreams, sleeping states and “out of this world” concepts in general. I also am a fanfic writer, so it resonated. I personally do not believe in shifting 100% nor am I religious in any way because I tend to be very realistic and very skeptical. However, that doesn’t mean I don’t believe in the possible existence of these things.

Lack of proof does not equal lack of existence.

✨Let’s go

  1. Yes, we know what lucid dreaming is. However, you have been misinformed on the shifting part. We don’t “go” to realities to control them. According to most people’s beliefs, the reality you “script” already exists and you’re simply going there, not creating an entirely new world. You don’t control it while you’re actually over there (unlike in a lucid dream). You can’t do something that’s not meant to be done, if you will.
  2. We do notice that our methods are similar to lucid dreaming. (Of course not all, but you have to excuse the initial excitement). No, the belief that “you cannot shift when you doubt it” is not drilled into us. This view did take hold when the entire thing first became popular on tiktok, however, now people are actively breaking that belief and saying that doubt is natural and shouldn’t hold you back from trying.
  3. I agree with this point, nothing to add really, time does feel different when in a dream.
  4. I am personally very skeptical of awake methods as they still tend to include an “unconscious” ending (aka you just fall asleep without realising) I am a bit skeptical about your MD take on it, but I haven’t experienced this so I cannot know what it’s actually like.
  5. I believe this what’s currently being called the “void state” in the community (or it might just be similar). I have experienced it once, and it was the coolest thing I’ve experienced so far. Many people say that this void state can be used to shift. Can it? Idk, maybe.
  6. A lot of misinformation on your part. We don’t consider ourselves gods of entire universes (maybe someone has scripted that they are a god. In that case, it’s a small minority since this is not usually the community’s goal). Again, point 1, we do not manipulate/control the people like “Wanda did in Wandavision”. According to the community, you cannot CREATE a reality. You simply choose one from the existing ones. There is a reality where you are a god, but there is also a reality where you’re an everyday adult doing taxes- that’s the point. There are realities where you hurt people and there are ones where you do not. You just make a choice about which one to experience. Next, it’s not necessarily easier to believe in shifting rather than in lucid dreaming. It’s just that reality shifting feels cooler and gives people what they want. Lastly, your point of this hindering our creativity. I see people script detailed backstories for their characters, they build relationships with other characters from 0, they plan outfits and write down scenarios and plotpoints that don’t exist in the original media. Is that not creative enough for you? Not everyone is a mastermind or has the wish to create a whole world from 0. Are you mad at fanfiction writers too because they use preexisting assets? Bc that’s what shifting kind of is- fanfiction with extra steps lol. (This only goes for people who wish to shift into existing media of course)
  7. No, it doesn’t terrify me at all because

a) again, shifters don’t CONTROL their realities like “Wanda in Wandavision”. They just choose which one to go to. Again again, there are realities where they are sadists and there are realities where they are not. Be concerned about what these people do in THIS reality instead.

b) like you said, reality shifting is simply lucid dreaming. So why should you be concerned about what people do in their dreams? Pick a side.

c) I have never seen a shifter who shifts just to cause pain to others. Idk why you think teens are some violent beings uncapable of empathy. Frankly, it bothers me a lot that you think that

8. (The numbers got messes up bc of the listing above) I do agree with this take. Being in these communities, I do feel like they are overlooking a lot of info and tend to twist scientific takes to fit their beliefs. However, they do often encourage people to read on their own and make their own conclusions. (And you know, people are desperate for proof, happens to the best of us, it’s human nature.)

9. Again, what I said for point 8. However, I want to add that I personally haven’t read these documents nor do I plan to. English is my second language and understanding these documents is pretty much impossible (I actually tried.) Also, it seems that you firmly believe in astral projection but not shifting? Kind of a weird take for me.

10. The answer is- I don’t know. A lot of info about religious beliefs (especially Pagan) were lost when Christianity took over. Absence of proof doesn’t mean sonething can’t exist. Also, the whole “so-and-so didn’t shift to x,y and z fictional world” take is really not as hot as you seem to think bc they weren’t interested in the action of “shifting”. Like you mentioned, it was meditation. They simply meditated. These two are considered separate goals.

11. You really didn’t say anything with this point, but I’m gonna throw in a comment anyway. Yes, we know the “raven method” is meditating. And even if you don’t know, you’ll realise it pretty quickly on your own. It’s meant to help you relax, unwind and then focus. Like a meditation bc it IS meditation. Also, the pose you’re in doesn’t really matter. It’s just supposed to be comfortable. In addition, there are many other methods like the julia method, the pillow method, piano, staircase, Alice in Wonderland etc etc. Idk why you only focused on that one. They’re all meditations and serve the purpose I mentioned above.

12. I agree with that point. People be considering everything a “shifting symptom” and it’s kind of becoming an inside joke of sorts even in the community

13. What I said in point 2 and 8.

14. What I said in point 6. To add, the clone thing is indeed questionable. However, a possible explanation that many people hold is that you do not create a whole different person. You and the other versions simply share a consciousness of sorts and you just become aware of the certain conscious you’re shifting to. It’s still you, you’re not pushing anyone out. And to go very meta, you were always meant to shift to the reality you shifted to. If you weren’t meant to do that, you wouldn’t’ve shifted there bc the reality simply wouldn’t allow. If you shifting doesn’t exist in that reality then you can’t shift there. And again, please stop with the “teens are sociopaths” or whatever you’ve got going on in that point. Like I said, it’s a strange view.

15. That is actually a great question. I suppose there are options.

a) they can’t.

b) they can and they will just coexist

c) the chances of this happening are basically nonexistent

I admit, I do not have the answer to that and that’s kind of the fun of it. Speculating and theorising. Using your creativity, if you will.

✨Now onto the notes:

↑this is something that comes up a lot. Here’s the thing- no one said it’s impossible to shift HERE. Let’s imagine person X has shifted into this reality here. So why doesn’t X wreak havoc and possess superhuman abilities? Simple, X doesn’t control this reality, he’s just in it. In our reality there aren’t any magical supervillains bc magic doesn’t exist, reality warping and controlling isn’t an option. X can only do what this reality ALLOWS them to do. Again, this is not a Wandavision type beat. X doesn’t control this reality, the reality controls X basically.

↑op’s reaction to someone asking them not to post this in the shifting tag. I will not be commenting about Wicca as I know nothing about it.

However, I am appalled at op’s rudeness. The person requesting you not to push negativity and ill-will into their community was well in their right to do so. They didn’t threaten you or anything. No one said this was “cultural appropriation” nor does anyone consider this a way of life. Not spreading negativity to a community that does not touch you is simply good morals. Instead you chose…whatever this answer was. Ick.

↑again, this is op. Now, I have never heard of any shifter considering this reality the center of the universe so this is most likely a minority. However, this is simply a belief of theirs with no proof to agree or deny. You compared this to “Christians getting angry at the notion of solar system”. This is a poor take bc unlike reality shifting, the solar system is scientifically proven to be real. Comparing a belief with no hard scientific proof to a belief that often IGNORES EXISTING scientific proof is not really comparable imo.

↑this whole thing about op going on about the definition of lucid dream.

The definition of lucid dreaming is not the problem here. The problem is that you thought that shifters can control their realities the same way you can control a lucid dream. This is not the case. Yes, you have scripted scenarios in your dr (desired reality, tired of having to beat around the bush) that happen, but according to their beliefs it’s simply bc you went into a reality where these scenarios happen. You are not the CAUSE of them happening, you simply choose to experience them.

↑Literally what does this even mean. So you’re mad because some teens want to experience fictional worlds and you believe that this ruins their creativity?

a) how is some random person’s creativity your issue?

b) read the ending of point 6.

c) yes, I’m going to be rude now. Just because you took classes on creative writing doesn’t mean you are to say what is creative for someone and what is not. It’s great that you apparently hold yourself to such a high standard, but the standard is not the same for everyone. Being introduced to shifting actually kickstarted my creativity after YEARS of basically nothing. It made me think of complex backstories and made me connect dots in the original media in order to fit my narrative into it. It has been such an interesting process for many and I’m sorry if this doesn’t satisfy you.

d) “method of convinving kids that they aren’t creative enough”?? Literally no one is doing that. The entire shifting thing is voluntary. Please watch less movies, not everything is a conspiracy.

e) Calling a person “monster” bc they didn’t agree with you? Not a vibe :/

↑I agree somewhat. This is definitely not the most healthy coping mechanism but then again, can you blame them? Look at the state of the world around us. In addition however:

a) no one is tricking impressionable people. It’s a choice to be interested in it. I have told about shifting to quite a few people and no one has been interested. People have a mind of their own btw.

b) “So they shouldn’t try to create anything” again, no one said that. And scripting is literally creating, idk what you want from them.

c) “teaching an preaching a narcissism”. Once again, not every teen is a power hungry demon. Most want to shift to have cool abilities or to experience possible love with their fav characters. I already talked about the “center of the universe thing”. Each to their own with that. Cannot be proven nor disproven.

✨Conclusion/extra thoughts

a) sending death threats or hate to the op is NOT okay (they said they received some in the notes) even if they were very rude and belittling.

b) To op: if people ask you not to crowd their tags with negativity, they have right to ask that. You do not have the right to go off on them. I understand you feel like you are doing this extremely right thing but…are you really?

c) shifters are not harming anyone. They do not manipulate people into joining their community nor do they actively force anyone to do anything, they really keep to their own mostly. They may give advice to people, but whether or not you take that advice is your choice. “Impressionable” is not really a thing here. In most spaces you have to be at least 13 years old. People are not responsible for the ones who are younger and lie about their age. It may not seem like that, but 13 year olds are really not that stupid, they can be critical about the things they consume. And if they do get obsessed with it? It’s a teen, they will grow out of it/lose interest. Important to add, I don’t even know how op gets shifting content on tumblr if they hate it so much. I’m sort of part of the community and I don’t get anything related to shifting on here bc I simply do not interact. So if it bothers you so much, block the tag, it’s an option.

d) to op- you preached about knowing a lot about lucid dreaming in the notes, insulting people who might have gotten certain things wrong. Considering how you got a quite a few shifting beliefs wrong (and went off about them), I feel like this is quite immature to react this way.

e) to op- if you are such a lucid dreaming enthusiast, why are you mad that people are doing it under a different name? After all, for you they are one and the same, there is no need to be angry.

f) essentially, you don’t know if shifting is a real thing. Hundreds of years ago, we didn’t know that many bugs see the world in different colours aka they perceive uv light. Does that mean uv light didn’t exist back then? No. It’s okay not to believe in something, but it’s not okay to belittle people.

and g) Leave people and their beliefs alone. Do you go up to Christian, Buddhist, Pagan etc people just to to “debunk” their beliefs and values just because you don’t believe in them and don’t like them? Like you said, these are mostly teens. How about you let them “lucid dream” and “meditate” in peace or do you just not like the fact that teenagers have niche interests? Shifting has introduced me to meditation and more interesting dreams. Both, especially meditation, has helped me relieve anxiety at night which normally kept me up. Without shifting, I would’ve never tried meditation.

↑to my followers, if you read through the entire thing, you can unfollow me I guess 🤷‍♀️

All of that and you really just reiterated everything I addressed.  You didn’t debunk anything.  Adding several pictures of the notes without context and writing out a thesis doesn’t suddenly change what you’re saying.  The Flat Earthers have similar documentation and anti-vaxxers.   Look at your own rebuttal that you seem so satisfied with.  You actually seemed to think saying “Oh, we wrote a script first and then shift to the reality where that script is how things play out” actually makes a difference.   You... really thought that would make me go “Oh, you’re right.  My mistake. It’s all real because you weren’t writing the script in the moment.”

Actual quote from above:  “The definition of lucid dreaming is not the problem here. “ See, each and every one of you puts these weird constraints on what entails a lucid dream and then claim the definition of lucid dreaming doesn’t matter while utterly getting what Lucid Dreaming is so very and frustratingly wrong.  You say things like “(Insert thing here) is how it plays out in a lucid dream.” And that’s not even remotely true.   The thing about lucid dreams is there are no rules.  The only rules quite literally are that of the dreamer’s own imagination.  If you want it to play out from something you previously planned out, that’s what you’ll get.  Lucid Dreaming doesn’t quire playing it by ear like picking up an electric musical keyboard for the first time and seeing what music comes out if you pressed these keys.

“The definition of lucid dreaming is not the problem here. You are not the CAUSE of them happening, you simply choose to experience them.”

Yeah, that’s how you perceive it.  But that’s how many people do Lucid Dream.  It gives a sense of realism.  Lucid Dreaming doesn’t require knowing you are Lucid Dreaming.  It requires entering a state of consciousness in a setting that you, on some level, control. And sometimes that control is convincing yourself you are going somewhere where they just happen to be living out the scenario you wanted.  It’s not consistent puppetry- almost no one wants to dream that, they like to believe the characters have some semblence of free will.

Again, you misinterpret that lucid dreaming actually is to try to convince yourself it’s not Lucid Dreaming.  This is like watching this painfully bad “debunking the debunking video” for Odd1outs that because you made many you felt it made you correct.  (by you, I mean the supposed shifters in general).

I never said teens are “power hungry demons.”  Do you think twisting my words and out-right using falsehoods immediately discredits me?    No matter the age there is a demand for control whether you realize it or not.  And there’s such subtle narcissism too.

When I asked some shifters “If our world’s fiction apparently plays out in other universes does that mean the fictional stories within those universes are true to?” I got at least two replies along the lines of “No, because our universe is the prime Universe, the main one, so that’s why our fictions tap into the multiverse.”  This not only diminishes the concept of creativity and imagination- which is a terrible thing to do and discourages creative hearts, but it also is an arrogance akin to saying “English is the only right language.” or “Our country is the direct middle of the planet’s surface space.”  It’s the assumption of being the center of the multiverse similar to the Catholic church’s now defunct sance that the Earth was the center of the universe.

And I won’t even bother pointing out that the concept of “Prime Universe” was invented for the main continuities of DC and Marvel comics. Marvel’s main continuity is Universe 616.  And DC’s is Prime Earth (Formerly known as New Earth).

Maybe this isn’t what all of them believe but enough of them believe that when they script they are channeling their idealized universe instead of making up the scenario they want.  And that’s where the discouraging of creativity that bothers me so much comes in.  Too many of them have said this.  That they are not really creating when they script, they are channeling, and writing out a universe that they have subconsciously already connected with and now need to consciously find through totally-not-lucid-dreaming.

And that’s just one tiny detail of some of the Shifter beliefs I’ve stumbled upon.  Many are self-blinded to the pure arrogance, narcissism and repurposed eh...Universe-patriotism!? and don’t grasp the harm if saying “Oh, we’re not actualy being creative” to the creative.

You wrote a thesis that is stunningly Strawman.  It argues things I never actually said and plays with semantics like you thought it would be some triumphant victory.

“Shifters are not harming anyone. They do not manipulate people into joining their community nor do they actively force anyone to do anything,”

Literally, look at what I just said, and have said several times.  You are discouraging creativity by telling people they aren’t actually being creative.  Also most religious cults say those exact words.  “We’re not harming anyone.” And  ”We don’t manipulate anyone into joining our community.”    There are Shifter youtube videos that say in the video description “This will not work if you have any doubts.” And “You have to believe in this completely or it will not really happen.”  That’s dogwhistle for “Do not question this or you will be shunned as a non-believer and for making us doubt our faith.”  You don’t even know how many religious groups, cults, and especially right wing factions use wording like that.  You should not be relying on tactics similar to Qanon.

You say it’s not the healthiest coping mechanism but in your same tangent say it’s not hurting anyone.   When a coping mechanism is not healthy, it IS doing harm, by its very nature.

The fact that I repeatedly said I studied theoretical physics only to be told right here on Tumblr to “Google quantum jump” and repeatedly told “that’s not lucid dreaming.  Lucid dreaming is (insert thing here)” should give you an idea how psychologically harmful this is to believers.  They told someone who studied theoretical physics to... Google quantum jump.  And their own definition was ironically very, very, very wrong.

“Literally what does this even mean. So you’re mad because some teens want to experience fictional worlds and you believe that this ruins their creativity?“

No, I’m mad because it’s discouraging the creative by telling them “You’re not really being creative.  You’re just channeling this other universe.”  It tells them that nothing comes from their own hearts, their own minds, their own experiences, their own emotions, passions, beliefs, or artistic potential.  And that’s heartbreaking.   It’s telling the creative that they don’t really create and you have no idea how discouraging and cruel that truly is.   Can you fathom how many aspiring authors this might have made put down the preverbal pens because they think what they are imagining isn’t really theirs?  No secret worlds deep inside each human heart... No dreams...  You can’t begin to fathom how terrible that truly is.

Why not more signatures!?

Calling all those monsters and ghouls who know just how much Halloween means to communities, it’s our time to vote! And try to speak for these ghoulish matters!

This is not just for the fun of it.  Let this be done and Wiccans and other Pagans will finally be given the respect and representation they deserve. Think how many small towns ban Halloween or force children to trick or treat the weekend before Halloween or have seven PM curfews on Halloween night. It’s deplorable.  But they can’t do that if it’s a federal holiday, then it has to be treated with the same dignity as Christmas or Easter.

I've been wanting to ask but unsure how to without sounding rude so my apology first. I love accessories made of silvers and pewters, and found Celtic ones very beautiful and powerful, so is wearing one as a non-Celtic person okay? Or is it rude?

Avatar

I’m going to be honest, Celts are an ethno-linguistic group. I mean…if something calls to you then something calls to you as long as you’re respectful. Also, you can never be 100% sure what’s running through your DNA. Now if you’re a Christian and wearing pagan jewelry because because it looks cool, then I might have a few words with you. Though I haven’t come across that really. Also, I feel like parts of Tumblr do not really understand cultural appropriation. For example, I know a few Native Americans who practice their indigenous spirituality and it’s actually considered rude to not acknowledge local land spirits. They told me this. As a practicing Celtic pagan I’m not in Celtic lands, so I need to learn what’s local around here. That’s actually considered a lot more respectful.

Fully agreed.  I think a lot of Tumblr confuses “Being respectful” and “Not appropriating” with segregation and even religious oppression without realizing that is what they are doing and this is actually quite dangerous.

“You can’t believe in that because you’re the wrong race.” should not be something you hear from modern young people and yet it is being said now and all under the mask of respect.
