Odds and... odds...

@thenightling

So Auras are real now...

So it was discovered that all living things emit a light (an aura) that usually can't be seen. And that light goes out when the body dies.

It's on a molecular level and caused by what scientists are calling bio photons. That just means light particles in living organisms.

Auras are real. Scientists can see the aura on a molecular level. Think of all the times people have made fun of spiritualists for talking about auras.

In defense of Bill Nye (The Science Guy)

For years now there has been a meme circulating declaring that Bill Nye isn't a "real scientist" because he "only" has a bachelors degree in engineering. When did this pretentious gatekeeping start? It's not only very restrictive on who counts as a scientist, it's actually wrong. According to The Oxford English Dictionary a scientist is one who studies or one who has science as a key aspect of their work. No where does it say "Master's degree required." The word scientist had nothing to do with specific degree requirements. Its first use was for a woman and the term was coined by a journalist who was used to the term "Man of science" or "Men of science." Scientist was a nineteenth century attempt at a gender-neutral version of that. It had nothing to do with the type of degree she had. And since when does a bachelors degree "not count"? Famed theoretical physicist, Stephen Hawking, had a Bachelors degree. No one ever pearl clutched or denied his status as a scientist. Also many speculative and theoretical sciences don't even offer Masters Degrees in the US. Parapsychology, for example, has no method of obtaining a doctorate in the specific field here the US. There are vocational schools like The Stratford Career Institute offering certificates but no actual degrees.

Cryptozoology is another one. Cryptozoology is NOT just looking for Moth Man- it's the study and investigation of theoretical and not yet classified lifeforms. And there is no degree or license required to work in the field of cryptozoology or to identify as a cryptozoologist. And a cryptozoologist IS still a type of scientist. it's a speculative science but it is, nevertheless, still a science. There's also non-secular degrees which, admittedly, are dubious in nature, such as degrees in metaphysics, Divinity, and demonology. The Vatican only recognizes demonologists that are actually trained and educated by The Vatican. Certain churches will offer honorary doctorates in metaphysics and Divinity (a DD). Though a DD is rooted in theology and philosophy (The study of beliefs in the divine and how they might function) many would still consider that a sort of speculative science. If works of fiction such as The Ghostbusters (Parapsychologists), and Victor Frankenstein in Mary Shelley's novel (who never even graduated) can count as scientists, anyone who studies a science or works within a science-based career counts as a scientist. You have to wonder what the true motivation is in saying someone who dedicated his life to science and enlightening others "doesn't count."

Rare moon

The super-blue-blood--second-wolf moon (Yes, that's really all of it's titles.  Or as I call it the Blood Blooded wolf moon) is happening right now!  It will still be the blue blood wolf moon tomorrow night but this is where it's blood red because of the lunar eclipse.   The last time we had a moon like this was in the 1880s.

Super moon (fourteen percent brighter than usual), Second Wolf Moon (Wolf Moon is the January full moon), Blood Moon (Lunar eclipse), and Blue Moon (second full moon in a month).

midgardian etiquette 101: when going to their homes, hang your coat first or in some cases, your mjolnir.

naw maybe it’s actually asgardian custom to check your weapons at the door

It was medieval custom to check your weapons at the door of the meadhall before greeting the king of the place you were going to. It was courteous and showed respect. You can see it in Beowulf.

what i don’t understand is how that hook can hold the mjolnir.

the hook is worthy

the hook is worthy

Peter Pan would disagree.

I’ve not read the comics but I always figured Mjolnir wasn’t heavy so much as stubborn, and if it decided it didn’t wanna move it just wouldn’t. It sits on Loki, rather than crushing him in Thor 1, and in Avengers it rests on the floor of the ship, and trying to pick it up Hulk starts breaking the floor with his weight, but Mjolnir doesn’t seem to weight anything at all (If it was as heavy as Hulk implied, it would drag the whole ship to the ground right?). Mjolnir isn’t heavy, cos its not going down, instead it is a fixed point and everything else just moves around it. Hence, the hook doesn’t hold it, it merely remains in place.

so what you’re trying to say is that Mjolnir is like a chicken head

instead it is a fixed point and everything else just moves around it.

OK SO WHAT YOU ARE SAYING IS THAT WHEN THIS HAMMER WAS FORGED IN THE HEART OF A STAR IT BECAME A FIXED QUANTUM POINT AND THE UNIVERSE MOVES AROUND IT—AND THOR IS THE ONLY ONE WITH THE PROPER RESONANCE TO INTERACT WITH IT ON A QUANTUM LEVEL AND SO HE IS THE ONLY ONE WITH THE LEVERAGE REQUIRED TO SHIFT THE REST OF THE UNIVERSE AROUND THE FIXED POINT THAT IS MJOLNIR

THIS MAKES SO MUCH SENSE

DUDE YOU GUYS SCIENCED THORS HAMMER THAT IS AWESOME

Eh...  No.   Marvel says it’s not at all that complicated.  It ways roughly 34.5 pounds but only the worthy can lift it.   To inanimate objects and the worthy it feels like 34 pounds.  That’s it.  It’s enchanted.   It’s not Doctor Who.

Also if you really want I can prove to you why the “science” in the above post is not science at all but very poorly contrived psuedo-science from science fiction TV, enough so to give someone who has studied actual theoretical physics a headache.  So please... Stop.  And don’t praise this idiocy again or I will start posting the real science as to why this is wrong and you will find it boring and fling insults at me for ruining your fun.

For starters there is no such thing as a fixed quantum point.  That’s like the complete contradiction of what quantum mechanics is about.    Did you just pick a bunch of “sciency” words that sound good together or did you believe the science in Doctor Who was somehow real??!  Do not hurt my brain with bad science on my dashboard EVER AGAIN!   Only Steven Moffat with a fast talking actor can use phrases like that and get away with it.  You however cannot.
