I never really thought about it until now, but...
Murray could tell BOTH Jonathan and Nancy had feelings for each other.
Murray could tell BOTH Hopper and Joyce had feelings for each other.
Dustin could tell BOTH Lucas and Max had feelings for each other.
But Lucas and Nancy assume that it's ONLY Mike who has feelings for El.
"If YOU love her so much, why don't you marry her?"
"Do YOU like Eleven?"
