Gosh… feels like a long time ago. Probably the amazement about how things actually got added and updated so frequently compared to other sites I played, although it seems to have slowed down a wee bit now. I think my first experience of a FlightRising anni was the release of eye types? And I was so underwhelmed because my friends at the time who had been playing for longer than me had said it would be something really really cool lol.
Gosh… feels like a long time ago. I joined at the tail end of the first Light Festival and I'm still kicking myself for not collecting the apparel and sprite then. But to be fair I had no idea what was going on and by gods [i]the lag[/i].
Back then we only had two tertiary genes: gembond and circuit. Underbelly was super requested on the forums and I still think it was the greatest gene addition they've ever made to the site.
Oh, and Ice was the king of Domination and received a lot of hate because of it :P Love my flight but it was an experience going into the Ice Forum as a newbie and first threads I see was stuff like "ice members getting blacklisted". Good old dominance drama, i don't miss it a bit.
And of course there can't be a thread with this theme without...

Context for newer members: familiars were super buggy back then and you'd frequently get this error when trying to bond with them. It was to the point you'd actually give up trying all together.

I don't remember a lot, but I think I was around before Star/Con and Roundsey? My oldest forum post was in June 2018, iirc.

Facet was released right before I joined. Of course I had no knowledge of the economy or anything like that, I assumed I'd never get a dragon with facet.
I also remember when Cherub was released. I saw it on the forums before I noticed the from page. I thought it was some joke gene someone created and just caught on really fast. Imagine my surprise when I finally checked the from page lol.
Lets see... I remember when they moved the Random Dragon box lower and replaced it with the Site Status. The formatting of the Site Status was horrible, and a lot of my friends complained how unprofessional it looked lol. Now it's not so bad!
I remember the first NotN, since I joined right before it. The slow SLOW site, the stacks upon stacks of Strange Chests that contained fairly useless items. The hour+ it would take to open all of them! I think I got like ~5 eggs from that NotN, and I still own all of the Nocs I hatched from that year! Love them to death <3
I remember the enrolment periods. I thought they were monthly when I first joined, and I wanted to pay forward all the free dragons I got as a newbie, so I filled my lair up with dragons I hatched to give away.... only to find out that it wasn't monthly and it would be months before the next one. I had to go through and start exalting less desirable dragons to keep hatching new ones to give away for whenever the enrolment would be.
I wish I had been wise enough to try to get those kickstarter fams and light sprite back then. Live and learn though. Oh well.
