Paul "Speeed" Bocchicchio (born June 7, 1999) is an American player who is currently playing for GamerLegion. He is also known for being the content creator for the GameLeap Dota 2 YouTube channel.
Biography
[edit]Content creation
[edit]Speeed began playing amateur Dota 2 in 2017, eventually working his way up to the semi-professional level in leagues such as NADCL. Around 2019, he became a content creator and streamer, creating guides on YouTube on his channel, as well as educational content on his stream. Alongside the likes of BSJ and Jenkins, his educational content was one of the most popular in English. He later joined GameLeap and became their content creator, with his catchphrases "It's ya boi Speeed" and "absolutely broken" becoming occasional memes on Reddit and Twitch.
Dota Pro Circuit
[edit]In the inaugural season of the Dota Pro Circuit in 2021, he joined Electronic Boys, his first taste of a professional league. He later joined 5RATFORCESTAFF in 2022, helping establish the team as a Division I side. He joined Team DogChamp in what was to be the final season of the Dota Pro Circuit, where by this point, his skills had grown remarkably from where he had started. During the North America Qualifiers for The International 2023, Team DogChamp were a dark horse in the qualifier, behind nouns and B8, with several far more established players. In the Upper Bracket Final against nouns, Team DogChamp dragged out game 1 to 75 minutes, and game 2 to nearly 60 minutes, with Speeed excellent in both games. However, nouns' experience proved to be the key, with nouns eventually grinding out a 2-0 victory by forcing out late-game mistakes. In the Lower Bracket against B8, the matches were shorter, but the result was the same, as V-Tune proved to be far too good for Team DogChamp, who exited the qualifiers in 3rd.
Apex Genesis
[edit]With the end of the Dota Pro Circuit in 2023, Speeed returned to content creation, although he played with Yangzhiganlu in various qualifiers. He also helped Apex Genesis on-and-off as a substitute and unpaid analyst,[1] and eventually joined the team proper. In December 2024, he and Apex Genesis took part in the Americas Qualifiers for FISSURE PLAYGROUND #1, a pan-American qualifier that featured Apex Genesis as the sole North American team, with multiple established teams such as M80 (formerly beastcoast), Team Waska, Hokori and FUSION.
Apex Genesis proved to be the strongest team in the qualifier, where they met M80 in the Grand Final. In games 1 and 2, they deployed an unusual strategy — and one he had foreshadowed on the GameLeap channel — a Venomancer who jungled from minute 1, taking advantage of ![]()
Plague Carrier. To mitigate the impact on his offlaner, Fayde, Fayde played Night Stalker with the ![]()
Night Reign Facet, allowing him to get something out of the lane 1v2. The strategy took M80 by surprise, as Speeed was able to gank K1 with a level advantage, something unheard of from a support in many years; Apex Genesis eventually won the match. M80 opted not to ban the strategy in game 2, seemingly believing that a stronger lane would counter the strategy altogether. However, midlaner RCY, on his signature Invoker, completely dominated the midlane, easily making up for Fayde's lower farm, and the team was able to set a tempo that M80 could not match, putting them up 2-0.

In game 3, he played Phoenix in a much more orthodox way; however, M80's Lumpy, having had a bad series up to this point, seemingly lost his temper, insulting Apex Genesis for the strength (or lack thereof) of the North American region.[2] A stable performance from himself and fellow support Bignum allowed their cores to shine, and eventually, Apex Genesis ran away with the game with a 22-3 scoreline and 3-0 series win. This marked Speeed's and Apex Genesis' first ever Tier 1 tournament qualification.
Wildcard
[edit]Soon after qualifying, the roster was signed by Wildcard, returning to the Dota 2 scene. The rebranding, however, did not mask the roster's stark lack of experience at FISSURE PLAYGROUND #1, where they were outclassed by stronger teams. Gaining that experience also proved to be difficult, as regional powerhouse Shopify Rebellion consistently kept them away from qualification. Wildcard did manage to take part in tournaments such as PGL Wallachia Season 3, when Shopify Rebellion were invited to, or opted to skip entirely, although progress was slow. By FISSURE Universe: Episode 5 Play-In, Wildcard managed to finally achieve a credible 5th-6th finish, and some semblance of strategic stability, and Speeed improving his defensive positioning to become far less of a liability.
Shopify Rebellion brought Wildcard back down to earth with five straight wins in Esports World Cup 2025: North America Closed Qualifier. However, Wildcard bounced back in The International 2025: North America Closed Qualifier, beating Shopify Rebellion 2-0 in the Upper Bracket Final, and Wildcard's first series win against them. This was followed-up by a nervy 3-2 win in the Grand Final, with Speeed playing Batrider to its limits in game 5. This marked Speeed's first ever qualification to The International.
Trivia
[edit]- As a child, Speeed and his brother were into sports, and shared an Xbox, whose account name was "HyperX Speed" ("HyperX" referring to a shoe brand, not the gaming hardware brand). As he got older, however, Speeed wanted his own nickname, and thus dropped the "HyperX" part.[3]
