The EU LCS 2017 Spring Split was the first split of the 2017 League Championship Series season in Europe, organized by Riot Games and held from January 19 to April 23, 2017. The season featured ten teams — eight returning from the 2016 Summer Split and two promoted from the 2017 Spring Promotion, Misfits Gaming and Origen. The split introduced a new group-based format, dividing the league into two groups of five. Matches were played in a Best-of-Three format during the Group Stage, followed by a Single Elimination Best-of-Five Playoffs to determine the European champion and the region’s representative at the 2017 Mid-Season Invitational.

    • Two groups of five teams each
      • Top two teams with the highest Championship Points in 2016 are placed in separate groups
      • Remaining 8 teams are distributed to the groups via snake draft
    • Each team plays 13 matches.
      • Double Round Robin within own group
      • Single Round Robin against other group
    • All matches are Bo3
    • Top 3 from each group qualifies to the Spring Playoffs
    • Group winners receive playoff byes into the semifinals
    • Fifth-place teams play in the Summer Promotion tournament
