World Trade

World Trade traces the material transformation of the World Trade Center after the attacks of September 11, 2001. Most of the steel was recycled, both domestically and abroad, and transformed into new steel products. World Trade returns some of this material to New York, back along the same pathways (container ships, trucks) that it left. The works, originally exhibited in Lower Manhattan, consist of materials purchased from companies that bought WTC scrap, alongside images and documents that recount the steel’s journey out of New York and, through sales records and customs forms, its return.
