Unfortunately, my experience with Gumroad as a seller was extremely disappointing.
I sold a digital product .
The buyer purchased the product and used it daily for over two months, downloaded it multiple times, and received full technical support directly from me, including Discord assistance and live setup sessions.
After more than two months of active use, the buyer suddenly requested a refund, claiming that the product or license key was not received. This claim is not true and is contradicted by months of usage and communication.
What is most concerning is that:
Gumroad informed the buyer that they would wait up to 30 days for the creator’s response
Yet the refund was issued immediately without waiting or proper review
The refunded amount was deducted from my balance, leaving my account negative
Gumroad then attempted to withdraw the amount directly from my linked bank account
This approach leaves sellers without meaningful protection and opens the door to refund abuse.
Even more troubling, after receiving the refund, the buyer sent mocking and abusive messages and openly admitted that he is still using the product with another person despite receiving the refund.
I contacted Gumroad support and provided evidence and conversation logs, but responses were mostly automated and slow. The financial, moral, and professional impact on me has been significant.
I strongly advise digital product sellers to be extremely cautious when using Gumroad, as you can lose both your product and your money without real seller safeguards.

⚠️ Serious data loss: entire workbook content disappeared without explanation
I am writing this to warn other creators and to hopefully get a real human response from the company.
I spent nearly 40 hours building a complete digital workbook on this platform. Everything was fully written, structured, and published. Then suddenly, all content disappeared.
To verify the issue, my husband downloaded the “free” version of the workbook. His folder was completely empty — no content at all. The file could not even be published if there was nothing inside it.
This means:
My work is gone
My customers receive empty files
I am unable to deliver what I have already promoted
My professional credibility is now at risk
I contacted support immediately. With AI`s help I tried everything without success. So far, I have only received AI-generated replies that could not help or explain but said I will be contacted by human support. Nothing yet so No answer:
why the content disappeared
where the data went
whether it can be recovered
how this could happen at all
There has been no clear answer, no timeline, and no accountability.
This is not a small bug. For creators who build and sell digital products, this is a critical trust and data integrity issue.
I genuinely hope someone from the company reads this and takes responsibility. Until then, I cannot recommend trusting this platform with important or time-sensitive work.
Fraud
They close your account at any given moment without any explanation. You can't build your business with them at all. So shady. Their support team don't even bother to study your case and just suspend your account and lock your payouts.
They charge a Whopping 10% scam fee per sale and provide terrible service in exchange. Don't deal with them if you care about your business.

I tried 4 different cards from different banks – either the bank declines the transaction because it considers Gumroad suspicious, or the website itself says the card isn’t supported. What exactly isn’t supported? It’s a regular international VISA card from a major European bank. How do you even operate like this?

It doesn’t matter that the money is yours, earned legitimately. Their answer is simply “we can’t do anything,” which leaves creators stuck with small balances they can never retrieve.
This isn’t what a creator-first platform looks like. The lack of transparency, the inflexible policies, and the dismissive support responses speak for themselves.
There are better, more respectful alternatives out there. I recommend avoiding this platform.

After a few days, I found my account suspended and my entire dashboard completely frozen.
No access to the help center, no access to any section at all.
I searched for the support email and requested an explanation.
A BOT replied: Your account was suspended due to non compliance with our Terms of Service.
I asked for clarification and for an escalation to a human.
Sherry replied: Your account was suspended due to non compliance with our Terms of Service.
I asked again for detailed explanations, because there was absolutely no reason to be non compliant.
Sherry replied once more: Your account was suspended due to non compliance with our Terms of Service.
I complained about the unacceptable service and informed them that I would leave a review.
Steve replied: Sorry for any confusion and frustration! Our new content review system is a little too highly strung and mistakenly flagged your content. Your account is unsuspended.
Now, it’s obvious that customer support never even looked at the cause of the suspension, because I had zero content for anything to be “mistakenly flagged.”
Beyond the extremely unprofessional behavior, a platform like this can seriously jeopardize a creator’s income and reputation.
If something like this had happened with an active business, the damage would have been far worse.

I purchased a book, but seller did not even upload it so I could download. Gumroad never gave me a refund. THis is how Scam works.

I would give zero stars if I could. I had a customer dispute their purchase of my product, which I clearly state on my checkout page that I don't give refunds. Gumroad responded and said I lost the dispute because I don't have a refund policy. Then a week later I discovered that my account had been shut down...with no warning or notification. The customer "support" just sounds like an AI bot writing me a canned email. It's horrible. Don't use Gumroad.
