We (three adults) just returned from our vacation in Crete on July 24th, staying at the five-star Avra Imperial Hotel, which we booked through Sunweb.
Sunweb's website described the hotel as having 65 rooms with absolutely no indication that it was specifically a family resort. In reality, the hotel was five times larger (328 rooms), and 70-80% of the guests were families with children aged 0-14. This made it impossible to enjoy a relaxing vacation. Throughout the day, there were various children's activities like circus acts and mini-magic shows. The buffet area was noisy, with children running around, food on the floor, and toys at the tables. This would have been acceptable if we had known beforehand.
Additionally, we did not receive the room we had ordered and paid for (a suite with a pool view and two bathrooms) as described on Sunweb's homepage. The hotel didn’t even have that type of room! So the hotel really tried to support us, but difficult when they didn't even had this kind of room.
Although the lovely wellness area was supposed to be child-free for those under 13, hotel staff did not enforce this, so children were everywhere, even in the "relaxation" area.
Moreover, wild cats were running around the hotel, on the terraces while people were dining, and we even saw them in the kitchen of the a la carte restaurants by the pool....which was really gross.
Another issue was that by 8 AM, 80-90% of the sun chairs were occupied with towels, and by 9:30, only 10% were actually occupied by people. This should not happen at a five-star hotel. The sun chairs were also extremely uncomfortable; they looked fine but were terrible to sit or lay on for more than 30 minutes as the cross braces could be felt through the surface.
Regarding the five-star rating, the hotel needs significant improvements. Our room (17310) was quite worn, with issues such as malfunctioning bathroom fixtures (the toilet flush buttons didn’t work well, and there was almost no water from the tap) and an air conditioning system that had a mind of its own. Every morning around 5:30, we were woken up by a croaking rooster from a nearby yard, which continued for up to two hours.
On the positive side, the food was excellent, of great quality, the sun was shining all the time and the hotel staff were supportive, friendly and really tried to help.
Despite this, we will never return to this quite expensive hotel and will avoid using Sunweb in the future if possible. If they can't even describe the hotel right, will that be the same next time? Who knows....
Note: Interestingly, I never received a questionnaire to leave a review on Sunweb's website, so I had to use Trustpilot instead.

The Hansen family, including children and grandchildren, have left your lovely hotel with a truly wonderful vacation experience. We arrived on Sunday, June 23rd, and returned home on June 30th.
On the occasion of our silver wedding anniversary, we wanted to gather our family in a place under the southern sun and warmth.
Our choice fell on Turkey and your lovely hotel, Eftalia Blue, and our booking was made through your professional Sunweb Travel Company.
We stayed in rooms 2163 and 2164, which worked out very well. The family rooms were fine and spacious, always neat and clean, with fresh towels every day, and a particularly friendly cleaning staff who were also skilled at bed decorations. It's worth noting that the air conditioning worked perfectly, and even though we turned it off at night, the rooms maintained a comfortable temperature throughout the night.
During our 6-day stay, I believe we visited all the places in your lovely hotel, which we definitely experienced as 5-star and luxurious. The friendly and service-minded staff everywhere in the hotel make you feel welcome, which is a very important element for a positive vacation experience, and you have truly succeeded in training your staff in this regard.
Our stay at Eftalia Blue was with All Inclusive, and once again we must commend your setup and arrangement. The large restaurant, during all three main meals, always presented a fantastic gastronomic buffet, a true delight for the eyes and catering to every taste, both for children and adults.
On several occasions, we felt compelled to thank your restaurant staff for the excellent work they do every day, three times a day. Each time, we received a friendly smile in return and a polite "you're welcome."
Most of our time was, of course, spent enjoying the sun and warmth by your pool area, and we have only praise for it. Even though it is a large hotel with many guests, we felt there was enough space. There were pools, waterslides, and water play areas to suit every taste. Our youngest grandchildren, at one and a half years old, had a fantastic experience, and we always felt safe in the water with them.
When we needed a refreshment, it was easy and convenient to go to one of the several bar options at the hotel and in the pool area where we were again met with smiles and exceptional service from your staff. The pool bar, in particular, where we often visited, had especially positive service and smiles among the staff.
Not only in the hotel rooms did we experience superb cleanliness, but throughout the hotel's common areas, pools, and restaurants, you have professionally smiling staff to clean up and keep the facilities tidy and presentable. It's a challenging task with so many people gathered in one place, but you handle it so well. Below a snip from your team who we believe makes a difference in making our vacation such a great experience.
We are now back in Denmark with a wealth of positive vacation experiences, and once again, we want to send you a big thank you for a superb stay at Eftalia Blue. With this email, we would like to extend our highest recommendations to you and to your potential future guests who may be unsure about which destination and hotel to choose. Might as well have arranged everything myself! No guide onsite, liftcard to be picked up in the other end of the town. Bought a ski in/ski out hotel that proved to be nothing close to that - Sunweb should know about that! So basically, thanks for nothing !

Very bad!!!! I bought trip from sunweb first of all when I was on the airport they said our flight is cancelled and we will get more information about next flight by email on phone (we never got it) when I went down to take my luggage it was not there I went to information point and they said that our flight will happen actually (we never got this information) we had 10min to get to the gate luckily we did it… when we reached our destination we should have transfer to our hotel of course nobody was waiting for us even we waited 2h on the airport. We took taxi and we got refund luckily. On way back when we were k. The airport the said all seat are sold and plane won’t take us !!! Incredible!!! I will not recommend at all!!!!

If I could give zero stars then this company would have got them! This company is blatantly stealing customers money and not delivering what was purchased.
Booked a holiday and paid extra for a better flight time with SAS. I reserved seats onboard the SAS flight for me and my daughter. Few weeks before the holiday I checked the details and noticed that the outbound flight had changed from SAS to AirCargo with no warning, notification or message whatsoever. We will now arrive 1 day later and after contacting Sunweb was informed that I will not be refunded for the reserved seats on the SAS flight, nor will they refund the holiday so I can book with an alternative company with the exact flight they claim is no longer available!
Have used this company before and although cheap was impressed with the service. This time, however not only have I not received what I paid for, but will now arrive 1 day later, with another airline and with no refund for the extra flight costs.
"Customer service" were both argumentative and unable to advise anything that would help.
I don't wish to travel with them, but having spent almost 20k I am now forced into taking a holiday that that is 1 day shorter, arriving after midnight (traveling with a child), with no refund for the original seat reservation made and no help to get a refund. Be careful if you consider booking with these fraudsters. Ready to take your money, but don't deliver what you have actually booked and god forbid something goes wrong - "customer service" won't /can't help at all!
Will never ever book with them again and recommend that you check real travel companies that have customer service. Disgusting "service" and not what I paid for or what people expect. Stay well away.
They promised to have guides at our hotel which they did not have.

They forget our transfer on our way home, however that one they were quick to fix.

DO NOT BOOK WITH THEM!! Highly unprofessional and lazy!! We booked a travel to Egypt with them and pay in advance for transfer from and to the airport. We have never been able to go to the airport with the already paid transport!!! The bus never came, we have been forced to pay one Uber and one taxi to get to the airport and spend more than 25 euro otherwise we could loose our flight to go back home. We called several time the emergency number of Sunweb, without receiving any help, only a “ I will call you back” for 3 times that never happened. DO NOT BOOK WITH THEM.

My experience:
I had an early flight, so I sat the alarm clock 20 minutes earlier than I normally would have, so I had extra time to check in from home, 5 hours before take off.
However the check in code provided by Sunweb did not work on the airlines check in page. I tried several times and so did my girlfriend, but it simply didnt work.
I was in contact with the airline, and they informed me, that Sunweb had not sent the airlines PNR, but sent their own PNR, which as mentioned after contious trials did NOT work. I was then punished with a fee for not checking in prior to arriving at the airport, even though I was unable to do so due to having received a nonworking code from Sunweb.
I was then in contact with the customer service at Sunweb. I explained serveral times, that their PNR code for check in did not work, they didnt listen, and would not take any responsibillity in the matter. Apparently they feel they can send a wrong code, and blame it on the customer when it doesn’t work, excellent service 👏
Rarely have I experienced such arrogant and horrible service. I will never use Sunweb again, and will be sure to spread the message, so less people get the treatment I received.
What usually follows a complaint like this, is a conciliatory reply from Sunweb, so other potential customers can see that they listen and care, but unless you/Sunweb put your money where your mouth is, and can admit there was an error on your end, plus repay me the amount I was forced to spend due to not being able to check-in.
Then please spare us, it is simply an attemt to limit the increasingly bad reputation of your company…
