The idea of “but everyone knows that” needs to stop.

I saw a post about someone chiding Millennials for not knowing about JKRowlings transphobia, and asking how it is at all possible that people can exist in the world and the internet and, you know, not know.

Which I mean, I get. It is so present in so many of my online spaces that it seems astounding that someone could simply be ignorant! It feels impossible!

But let me tell you a story:

I went on a girls trip with a bunch of friends. All of us are rather incredibly liberal and all of us are incredibly online.

One girl would not stop talking about Harry Potter.

At one point, another girl asked her why she was ok with supporting it, and she had no real clue that JK Rowling was at all transphobic. She had heard that she likes to support Lesbian causes and thought “oh ok cool!” And that was it. She was AGOG with the news and rather horrified.

I must once again emphasize that she was an incredibly online person. She’s a foodie and a restaurant blogger.

Later in the trip we were picking restaurants and I suggested one I found on Google, and she gasped at me. Actually gasped, asking how I could ever be okay picking that one.

The shock must’ve been on my face, because she then told me all of the shitty things that restaurateur does. He abuses staff. Underpays them. Fires them on a whim. Is known for being one of the worst people to his employees in the entire restaurant business on this coast.

And she was so shocked I had never heard of this. Because in her mind, I was just as online as her. And in her online world, EVERYONE knew about this guy.

So I think the moral of this story is: always approach the other person with some empathy. Even online people, even people you think MUST know about how bad people are, may not have heard. It may truly be just them being on a different sphere of the internet than you.

So be gentle, be kind when letting people know they might not have heard about the cancellation of XYZ person. Don’t assume that everyone knows all the same info as you.

By all means, let them know so they can make informed decisions, but being kind will go a lot further than attacking them for some info they might not know yet.

kind of obsessed with how this is worded as if the executives running the faygo brand are dealing with the juggalos like theyre a weird ex. imagine being in the faygo marketing department and being fully aware that you could absolutely market to the weird goth clowns but dare not face the consequences of that action.

btw if youre young and scared of doing adult things without your parents ive learned that like 90% of the time you can just tell the doctors office or the dmv "haha sorry ive never done this without help before... can you show me how to do this?" the employee will not care. if that means anything to you

Do you think an employee would rather deal with

a) someone pretending they know what they're doing until it becomes obvious they don't, wasting time and mental energy

b) someone who thinks they know what they're doing but doesn't and will never listen to help, wasting infinite time and mental energy

c) someone who politely admits they don't know what they're doing and asks for help, wasting no time or energy

BJ knocking over the picture of mildred then noticing and fixing it right away #politeyoungman

American snacks are so fucking weird. Wdym u have blue liquid and red liquid and green fizzy liquid (?) For beverages. Wdym u have a round circle of cheese and a cracker for lunch (lunch ables i think?) Wdym u eat pizza with RANCH???? WHAT ARE U PPL EVEN DOING BRO😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

Pry the (plant based) ranch outta my cold dead hands, moot

But yeah Lunchables. And the adult "snack packs" are popular cus it's just all in there for you and you don't have to pack anything yourself. Usually it's multiple of everything tho and there's a bunch of lunchable options.

Wait til I tell you about Wisconsin's Cheese Curd Burgers/hj

BUT ON PIZZA THO😭😭😭 I GET LIKE OTHER STUFF BUT PIZZA😭😭😭 ITS ALREADY SALTY

Ranch isn't salty????? It's the creamy tang for me but I've never categorized it as "Salty"

WHY IS IT CREAMY TANGY WITH CHEESY SALTY PIZZA THAT DONT MAKE SENSE TO ME😭😭😭😭

I dunno, it just works

Tbf tho I don't get pizza with cheese and my favorite kind is barbecue chicken so it's like dipping bbq wings in ranch

I have tried traditional pizza (sans cheese) with ranch tho and I do kinda like it. Dunno why. Just kinda works

PIZZA WITH NO CHEESE???!!?!?!??!

I have somehow left this convo more confused than before

I'm lactose intolerant, moot

It's the easiest way for me to enjoy pizza cus dairy free cheese is temperamental at best and borderline inedible at worst

I lactose intolerant too

👁👁

I b shittin idgaf my cheese stays on the pizza

i like ranch w my pizza ranch is so freaking goodmmmmmmm chimken sandwhich wit ranch

*concerned European noises*

So that's like a thing there?? Everyone does this there??

IM CONCERNED TOO EUROPEAN APPARENTLY EVERYONE DOES DO THIS😭😭😭😭

I can excuse pineapple on pizza but i draw the line at pizza with no chese and ranch

EXACTLY THE ACIDIC PINEAPPLE CUTS THE CHEESY FAT FROM THE PIZZA IN SUCH A GOOD WAYYYY

You ever had a gyro with tzatziki sauce? A fish taco with aioli? How about an eggs benedict? Congrats you enjoyed bread with salty things, being topped with or dipped in a creamy thing. There are many things that are US abominations but this thread I think is just y'all freaking

Ok but bread with a poached egg is not salty but creamy and the sauce on top is creamy and nice so that I like but if its cheese pizza that already has sauce and toppings on top ALONG with cheese (salt) and on top of that if u add a creamy tangy sauce I cant handle all that thats just too much

Also man this thread can be whatever i want i love making fun of American food and things in general lemme be

...eggs benedict is a salted and peppered egg on top of a slice of Canadian bacon or ham. It is salty, at least as I've had it.

But nah seriously I never had ranch on pizza growing up. Then I worked caregiving and some of the clients loved it and insisted I try it and it grew on me. I haven't eaten it since I quit that job. I get the ick factor.

I just think it matters to give things context and also a chance, especially when if you break it down it's a familiar balance of flavors

Note I did not defend the drinks only identifiable by their artificial color number; or the round meat goo, square cheese goo, and round crackers that are "ham and cheese lunchables" 😂
