Watch out‼️(I'm so ready for trigaze saturdays)
not again ffs
This is so on-the-nose for the left that it feels like it has to be a right-wing op.
this six lane highway could have been a railroad
The USPS does not lose or spend billions a year. It was making a profit until a Republican Congress tried to sabotage it by forcing it to fund pensions for 80 years out. Now it's struggling to do that, of course. But that money doesn't evaporate, it goes into pension funds. Of course, the Republicans' ultimate goal is to eliminate the USPS so only private industry will deliver mail, so they keep on going after it, even though a postal service is specifically dictated in the Constitution. But that's what this claim is about.
on the subject of being into Queer Media as specifically a lesbian who wants to see women in things. throwback to when ofmd season 1 was airing and someone tried to put together a Female Character Appreciation Gifset but the pickings were so slim that they had to include the fucking seagull
anyone know if rubik is like, problematic? do we still fw his cube?
To celebrate the reprinting of our anarchist cookbook Recipes for Disaster, we present a guide to installing unsanctioned mosaics in asphalt streets and parking lots:
Some people know of these as the mysterious "Toynbee Tiles," the stuff of urban legend. Our researchers cracked the method two decades ago. Ever since then, we have been trying to make these as ubiquitous as spray-paint.
Can you help?
recently my friend's comics professor told her that it's acceptable to use gen AI for script-writing but not for art, since a machine can't generate meaningful artistic work. meanwhile, my sister's screenwriting professor said that they can use gen AI for concept art and visualization, but that it won't be able to generate a script that's any good. and at my job, it seems like each department says that AI can be useful in every field except the one that they know best.
It's only ever the jobs we're unfamiliar with that we assume can be replaced with automation. The more attuned we are with certain processes, crafts, and occupations, the more we realize that gen AI will never be able to provide a suitable replacement. The case for its existence lies on our ignorance of the work and skill required to do everything we don't.
I feel like it's a really common trope to have a non-biological entity disgusted by squishy bio things like secretions and flesh and stuff but. Wouldn't they utterly lack revulsion to those things? The reason we are repulsed by things like blood and shit and corpses is because they are intimately connected to our bodies, are uncomfortable reminders of our animal mortality, can be vectors of harm, or are a signal of danger. A being made of energy, metal, or plastic does not have the same sympathetic connections to these things that we do, except as a kind of intellectual sympathy for what people they care about fear. Disgust is repulsive, and you can only repel something if it's close to you. I think the things that viscerally repel a non-biological mind are not going to be biological.
Hmm... Maybe not as extreme as a corpse, but if you handed someone composed of mostly metal an extremely corroded piece of copper, I could see them reacting like you just handed them a very moldy orange.
To reach "handed a decomposing roadkill squirrel" level, maybe give them something with identifiable parts similar to what is in their body, like corroded circuit boards, batteries, wire connectors. That's a more direct reminder of mortality.
people talk about how we need to bring back "don't feed the trolls" rhetoric for modern internet ragebait and I agree but also I think the most useful thing from the Old Internet that I miss is LURKING
be a lurker. just read things and think about them without feeling the need to weigh in or call out or disseminate everything you encounter. it's so nice and so freeing and it's a good way to learn things.
I have frequently regretted getting involved in shit that didn't involve me online but you know what I've never regretted doing? Lurking. literally lurk moar
