ARIA
They/Them - Cleric - Neutral Good ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
"We may not reach the ending,
but we can start Slowly but truly mending, brick by brick, heart by heart"
Though far from their family, Aria has no plans to return to their original home. As far as Aria's concerned, they are home. The Shadeloom Clan has become their family and friends, and of course, their beloved is here - and life without Evika is now unimaginable.

STORY Aria's visions haunted them from the moment they began to realize that the screams and the suffering were more than just bad dreams. They didn't understand why they had been forced into such a terrible curse... What could they possibly have done? Though others of the Starwood Seers had visions of their own, Aria believed that no one could possibly understand... How could anyone live with the knowledge of pain and death, and do nothing? Perhaps the destinies of others were set in stone... Perhaps Aria's was, too. But perhaps not. And wasn't that "perhaps not" worth a try? But Aria wasn't ready... To venture into the world, to leave home and family behind... It didn't seem possible. Until the day came when Aria received a vision of the most beautiful dragon they had ever seen. This dragon was sick, deathly ill. No one would be able to save them. And Aria wept. That night, Aria packed what little treasure and possessions they had, threw on a cloak, and escaped into the night. Unfortunately, Aria's visions told them nothing of the journey or where to go. The only clues came when Aria was forced to watch more of the beautiful dragon's torment - and even then, the only detail that was certain was that the visions were taking place in the Shadowbinder's domain. It seemed like eons before Aria finally allowed themself to rest. Exhausted and ragged from weeks of travel, and almost beyond hope, Aria dragged their weary talons into a small village to beg for a night of shelter. What they found instead... was a pallor of death. Flashes of sickness and pain swarmed behind Aria's eyes as they were assaulted with the struggle of the dragons of the village - the plagued village. Then a new vision passed - no, not a vision, but a sight, for physical eyes. A scarlet dragon with a strange smoke emanating from his face. He pointed a long, sharp claw at Aria. "You there! You must leave the village immediately. This place is under quarantine for a most terrible disease!" "And who are you?" Aria demanded, their stubbornness giving them a hidden reserve of strength. "I am Faulkner. I am a doctor. A healer, if you will. Please, you must go before you fall ill." "How are you not sick?" Aria wondered. "Ah - the mask you see upon my face. It filters the air and keeps away potential contaminants. It keeps the disease out, so to speak." "Then give me one and let me help you," Aria insisted. And that was the point of no return - if their destiny ever was set in stone, then it was inscribed upon the rock at that very moment. Aria became Faulkner's apprentice in those next few weeks, learning the duties of a doctor and healer, and more besides. They journeyed to every afflicted village in the area until they were certain that the epidemic was contained and on the decline. And yet the beautiful dragon was never among the ones they healed... And Aria's only thread of hope that they remained alive was that the visions never ceased. Then, one quiet evening before a rustling tavern's fire, Faulkner told Aria of a certain place - a place in the Shadowbinder's domain. "Dragons from all walks go there. Or so I'm told. It's a quiet place, and hidden. And supposedly very beautiful, though difficult to find. And yet I intend to find it... I've devoted my entire life to the care of others, yet now my scales grow patchy and my eyes dull. I am growing old before my time, Aria. I must settle down before it is too late. And who knows... Perhaps the dragons of the Shadeloom Clan will find themselves in need of a healer." "I'm going with you," Aria said with no hesitation. The two of them set out at dawn in search of the clan of misfits who occupied the mountain and marshes along the outskirts of Wispwillow Grove. Little by little, the terrain began to change... The grasses grew a deeper shade of green, the flowers grew more eerie and iridescent, and mushrooms of every shape and color sprouted from the ground and among the roots of increasingly gnarled trees. Yet Aria was not afraid... In this place, the stars and fireflies were not afraid to dance. At last, with the moon rising high, Faulkner spoke in his low grumble, his voice attaining an awe that Aria had not heard before: "There it is, my dear. The Moonrise Mountain. We have almost made it!" "Almost," came a voice from the trees. A party of three dragons - scouts, by the look of them - stepped forth, led by a Mirror with scales of mottled green. "I am Yewtangle, a leader of the Shadeloom Clan. What business have you here?" "We come to join you," Faulkner replied. "We are a healer and an apprentice." So it was that the two of them joined the Shadelooms of Wispwillow Grove. And so it was that the clan did, in fact, need a healer. Urgently, in fact, for one of their best hunters had grown terribly sick some weeks ago and showed no signs of recovering. And so it was that Aria met their Evika, the most beautiful dragon they had ever seen. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ |

"Dragons born with unusual plague eyes have the ability to peer into the present and see things happening at this very moment, albeit not willingly. Their visions are limited to things that are sick, dead, or dying. They get their visions randomly, and cannot control them. Training can help them learn how to control their visions."
