STARFALL
He/Him - Astronomer - Lawful Good ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
"I shouldn't be here 'cause I should be dead
I can see the lights in front of me I believe my best days are ahead I can see the lights in front of me"
Starfall's very first vision was of his own death. He had this vision relatively late in life compared to the other seers of his family, so realizing that he could finally see the future was almost a relief...until he recognized the subject matter. The vision haunted him for weeks on end as he tormented himself with plans to escape his fate.
Eventually, he came to the realization that no one can escape death or suffering, but instead, each dragon should attempt everything they can to lessen the suffering and make the world a better place for everyone. With this principle in mind, he determined that no matter what else he did with the time he had left, he would always find a way to do some good. |

STORY Since Starfall was a hatchling, he had loved the stars, and could spend hours in the dark with nothing but a spyglass and a lantern, just watching the moon. Even after he'd joined his parents and siblings as a seer, the call of space was strong, so he journeyed from home to every observatory and planetarium in his namesake Starfall Isles. Before long, he realized that even the copious notes and knowledge he'd obtained from his studies weren't enough to give him the understanding he sought. With hopes that better equipment would give him deeper answers, he journeyed next to the Shifting Expanse. He learned about electricity and machines, and became familiar with the most innovative technologies in all Sornieth. And yet, he still wasn't able to get a glimpse of the furthest comets or the most tantalizing solar systems. Eventually, as he was adjusting yet another telescope in frustration, it occurred to him that perhaps he could develop portable equipment that he could take to a location of very high elevation somewhere in the middle of nowhere, somewhere with no fires and no lights. "Aha!" Starfall exclaimed, startling the Sandsurge who was polishing some lenses on the far side of the observatory. "The Tangled Wood! There's never any lights in there." Abandoning the telescope for a library, he found an atlas and located the easiest high-elevation point he could travel to in the Shadowbinder's domain: the Moonrise Mountain. Of course, the journey involved months of careful preparation, in which Starfall collaborated with his colleagues to create multiple types of portable astronomy gadgets. With tearful goodbyes to his new friends (and promises to send copies of their research notes), Starfall set out once again in the name of science, once again unsure of what to expect, but always keeping his cheerful optimism. His bright attitude never faded once, even as the light from the very sun seemed to dim, because as the shadows grew, the better he was able to see his beloved stars. One evening, as he was checking over his map by lamplight, he realized that he no longer needed the map to navigate... He could see the mountain looming overhead. He stayed up past midnight that night, fantasizing about all the incredible discoveries waiting to be made, all the new things to learn. He didn't know exactly when he drifted off, but when he awoke, there were two strange dragons hovering over him. "Aieee!" Starfall screeched, scrambling back, his talons tangled in his blanket. "Who are you? What do you want?!" One of the dragons - a Wildclaw like himself - chuckled and lifted his claws in a gesture of peace. "My name is Evika. We didn't mean to startle you. My companion here is Aseneth." He gestured to the towering Guardian standing beside him and continued, "We were out looking for some creatures who may have pelts that Aseneth hasn't yet added to her collection - her charge, I mean - and we came across your camp here." "We thought you might be dead," Aseneth said bluntly. "It's past noon, and you were very still." "Oh. Oh." Starfall stammered, scratching his talons on the ground. "I - Well, I'm an astronomer, you see. I was up late examining the stars." Evika tilted his head in curiosity. "An astronomer! If you're coming towards the mountain, you should visit our clan. Several of us are interested in science. Faulkner especially would love to talk to you - he's our doctor. Well, and Grimmshade could use someone new to fuss over for a few days." Starfall thought he might faint from excitement. "The mountain! You mean to say you live there?! That's exactly where I want to go!" So it came to pass that the third Starwood Seer joined the Shadeloom Clan. Though his fellow seers, Aria and Brontë, were suspicious of him at first due to his bloodline, they soon realized that he was far from the power-hungry sorcerer they had been raised to expect. If anything, the astronomer's thirst for life and gentle appreciation of his fellow dragons was contagious... Since Starfall's arrival, every Shadeloom dragon has taken a little more time to smell the roses... And to see the stars. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ |

”Dragons born with common plague eyes have the ability to peer into the future, albeit not willingly. Their visions are limited to things that are sick, dead, or dying. They get their visions randomly, and cannot control them. Training can help them learn how to control their visions.”
