Now that we’ve watched X-Men: Apocalypse, I think we can all agree that Simon Kinberg knew what he was talking about bcs, here you go, the summary of the new trilogy:
XMFC: the story of how Charles and Erik met, got married, adopted baby mutants together, and got divorced all in the span of 132 minutes
DOFP: the story of how Charles and Erik cope with their divorce; or, you know. they didn’t cope at all. they had to have Logan coming from the future to be their marriage counselor.
XMA: the story of how Charles and Erik think they’ve moved on, but then the universe laughed and said to Erik, “Here are the happiest moments in your life,” *cue some really gay montage from XMFC*
And Singer described it as a marriage
Yeah, like if XMFC is falling in love/infatuation, and DOFP is them at their farthest apart, by the very end of XMA it does feel like they’ve found their way back to each other, in a more…mature, maybe, kind of love? It does feel like a marriage, knowing each other’s worsts and still accepting and embracing that connection.
