The Primordial harmony is a state of cosmic order before the universe's creation in the lore of Dota 2.

Description

The Primordial harmony was a state of wholeness where everything was once joined together in harmony. Every plane of existence plus every living being in them existed as one whole entity, such as the physical planes and spiritual planes which were once united, before a paradoxical thought from the Wailing One divided them apart,[3][4] or the Fundamentals who were once a single force.[5] Described as a “symmetry” by the Elder Titan,[1] this would mean that not only were all things united with each other, but there was also no difference between them.

It is implied that, within this Primordial harmony, everything felt nothing but happiness from the unity they were in. This is implied by Dota 2's lore about the reunion of the spirit with the body. This lore is the same as the real life concepts of kundalini, a cosmic energy that lies dormant in the root cakra located at the base of the spine. Pictured as a coiled snake resting at the base of one's spine, practitioners perform Laya Yoga techniques to rouse this energy, causing it to move up the spine and penetrate the six cakras located along the spine. Once it reaches the final seventh cakra at the crown of the head, the practitioner reunites with their atman or soul, making them feel a bliss beyond the mundane.

Meanwhile in Dota 2, the Worldsmith Elder Titan feels a sensation of happiness once he's reunited with a fragment of his shattered soul using Return Astral Spirit, similar to the great bliss that's felt once the atman is reunited with one's flesh.[6] Ezalor's Chakra Magic is a form of Laya Yoga since it awakens one's kundalini (which he also calls “the serpent of illumination”)[7] to “bestow his harmony” to others, which means that he reunites others with their souls so that they gain a harmony like his own, similar to the aforementioned info.[8]

The Primordial harmony existed before this universe was created and before time began to flow, because it was the formation of the universe during the Shattering that broke the Primordial harmony, disuniting everything into the Seven Planes and the differentiated beings who live in each of them.[9] This means that time did not yet exist in the Primordial harmony and it would've lasted for eternity were it not for its creator's mistake breaking the harmony using his hammer.[10]

Although this Primordial Harmony remains shattered to this day, apparent in the various forms of disunity that divides all things, it is said that it still exists intact in a deeper plane of existence, far beyond ours.[11] It also exists intact in the dreams of the Elder Titan.[12][13][14][15]

Arc Warden

Arc Warden, like all things, was once united with the Primordial Mind before the world was born. When the Mind was split in the genesis of the universe, Zet came into existence and bore witness to the conflict and disunity between two other fragments of the Mind, the Radiant and the Dire. Since then, Zet is wholly dedicated to a mission it calls the “Great Unification” in which Zet seeks to reunify all things back to the Mind or, if this proves impossible, destroy the warring Ancients to quash their war which threatens the harmony that Zet seeks.[16][17][18][19]

Earth Spirit

By sowing death, Earth Spirit gradually completes the Primordial harmony with each fallen spirit he returns to it.[20][21]

In the same vein, Kaolin returns to what he calls the “ultimate order” in death (likely referring to the Primordial harmony) before rebirth.[22]

Elder Titan

Elder Titan is the maker of the one world, which he intended to be preserved in the Primordial harmony. But, he made a mistake during its formation and his hammer fell upon the world, disuniting the wholeness of reality into the many planes of existence and the motley creatures that dwell there in an event known as the Shattering, among other names. Since then, he harbors a deep guilt for his error and now dedicates his shattered being to repairing the schism between all.[9][23][24][25][26][27][28]

In the meantime, this Elder Titan completes this Primordial harmony by degrees with every fallen soul that he reunites with said harmony that still exists beyond in a deeper plane of existence.[29][30][31]

When the Elder Titan steps into our plane, it's from his dream of his Primordial harmony that he steps from.[2] He returns back to life from the dream as well, sending him back to the miserable reality rife with suffering and disunity.[12][13][14][15]

Enigma

Enigma is a powerful Fundamental, a force of nature born in the Shattering of the Primordial harmony.[32] As the force of gravitation which binds things together, Enigma seeks to restore order to the Primordial harmony.[33] Like all things, Enigma is connected with everything in this Primordial harmony, which he states that it still exists in a deeper plane of existence.[11]

Over time, Enigma completes the Primordial harmony by reuniting the souls of those he destroys back to it.[34][35] In the same vein, he returns to the Primordial harmony when he dies,[36] before coming back to life and exiting this harmonic existence.[37]

Faceless Void

Faceless Void knows that all dimensions are actually connected, thus his ability to bring Claszureme to our plane via Chronosphere.[38]

Keeper of the Light

Keeper of the Light is another Fundamental who was born in the Shattering of this Primordial harmony,[31] in which he ventured out of the Fundamental plane on his own, breaking away from the Unity that bound him with the other forces.[39]

Ezalor also has the ability to manipulate others' connections to the Primordial harmony. By disrupting a being's connection to it, he may cause a Mana Leak that drains the magical energy from the reserves of their spirit.[40] He may do the opposite with his Chakra Magic in which he “bestows his harmony” to others, reuniting them with their soul and replenishing their energy.[8][7]

Outworld Destroyer

Outworld Destroyer possesses a helm whose symmetrical horns “foreshadow the dark power” that he may summon to guard the “inmost shells of creation” from the evil threats that lurk beyond our world and comprehension.

A helm whose very symmetry foreshadows the dark power that Harbinger may summon to protect the inmost shells of creation from cold destructive forces beyond knowing.

Perhaps this symmetrical power foreshadowed by this horned helm is the very Primordial harmony itself. As stated in the page, it still exists intact on a deeper plane of existence. “Inmost” means that it is deepest within or farthest from the outside, which sounds exactly like the Primordial harmony. It is also described as symmetrical by the horns' shape, just like the Primordial harmony.

The only thing about this power that does not correspond with the Primordial harmony is this power being described as “dark” for some reason, since there's nothing ominous, let alone evil, about the Primordial harmony so far.

As for how the summoned Primordial harmony can protect all of creation, this ultimate state of order is an existence where all things are tightly bound together, like the bound particles of the hardest substances. Therefore it works good as a shield, like how fragile wood sticks are harder to break when bundled together, and its existence on a deeper, inmost level means that it protects this world from threats that may enter from within.

Members of the Order of the Oyo, like this Brewmaster, are dedicated to healing the Schism that divides all existence. Growing up with the creation stories of the Wailing One in which the world was made when this divine mind was split into many after being unable to think a single paradoxical thought, they now pursue the one thought that eludes the Wailing One through the enlightenment of drunkenness to restore to it wholeness once again, reuniting the physical and spiritual planes as it was in the beginning.[3][4]
