me: do you ever think about how Rogers not only was feeling the loss of being separated from his daughter, without of course knowing how to explain that feeling, but he was also deprived of his connection to the sea? like the curse made it specific that he never visited the ocean despite having had a strong wish to do so and that made him even more miserable and sometimes i wanna cry for sweet detective muffin ;_;
Ah, Gothel’s curse is so beautiful, because while most of the recipients of it are just, like, different or whatever, but getting on with their lives, whatever, the curse did Hook SO dirty that it had to have been done on purpose.
Granted, he was already separated from Alice before the curse, so their separation IN the curse was a given. But that separation is Gothel’s fault in the first place, so it just adds to the petty shit she’s done to him.
But the sea thing you said. I mean, the sea calms and comforts him. OG Hook said as much, and even Dark Hook found its presence soothing. To deprive him of it entirely is just needlessly cruel.
And the loneliness. I mean, the angst when he explodes with, “Because I don’t have anybody!” is so painful to watch T_T Hook always had a crew. Acquaintances. People around. Friends, even. Rogers was just… so alone.
And she channeled his obsessive need to reunite with Alice into an even more obsessive need to find her, so she could use him to free herself when the time came. She fucking used his pain to benefit herself.
Sorry, I could talk forever about the curse and how it did him wrong.
I mean, I hate it… and I love it. Gothel is just the kind of vindictive villain who literally fucks people over just to do it. And that is SO great from a whump standpoint. I mean, that kind of villain will toy with their victim just to watch him squirm, simply because it amuses them. There’s nowhere you can’t take that kind of dynamic. You can do whatever you want. I love it.
Hello, and welcome to my TED Talk. I’m KW, and I’m the head mistress of the Killian Jones Bang Train. In honor of Wish Hook Week, I’ve been asked by absolutely no one to provide an in-depth look at our facilities and the special amenities and stations we’ve added to accommodate Old Hook, Wish Hook, and Detective Rogers.
First, allow me to say that we here at the KJ Bang Train have every sympathy for those who choose not to acknowledge the existence of Wish Hook (or his tengential other versions). We have a highly sophisticated protocol in place for such riders on the Bang Train, which we have tentatively titled, “Shut Up and Bang the Other One Then”.
However, for those of you who have adopted a “the more the merrier” or an “if it has Colin’s face, I’ll bang it” approach in your life, we have adapted and expanded all of our stations to allow for this exciting new addition to the KJ Bang Train. Please, come along with me for a veritable word wall virtual tour.
Alice was 11 when Hook got poisoned and between 11 and when she’s maybe 20ish when he sees her again, he aged a LOT, and that’s because of the poisoned heart.
It was mentioned his heart became more and more corrupted when she drew near him, meaning he likely was climbing up. When he sees her again, that’s not the face of a child who was abandoned. That’s the face of an older kid who finally got to see him again up close.
If you know anything about Killian Jones as a man, he’s Determined if nothing else, he sought revenge for 200 years FFS, he’s not going to just leave his child just bc Gothel said he would fail. He said “I WILL GET HER OUT!”
That is not a man who will just go off and do whatever he wants, he was dedicated to Alice the moment she was born. He was a driven man who tried for years to release Alice, and the poison on his heart aged him a lot faster than he normally would have aged.
In 7x02 he says how he roamed the realms seeking true love, he says in 7x16 how he thought selling a map would get him a cure to save his heart, it’s implied he and gothel have seen each other more than once before in 7x11
Alice also sought on her own a way to cure them for years, she sought him out when she thought she was cured, she watched after him when she missed him, he watched after her when he knew where she was and spent long stretches of time watching after her that’s not a relationship of abandonment
there are other cases where the writers don’t feel the need to give everyone a step-by-step guide because critical thinking and inference should be a thing, man I love @killianmesmalls (Who pointed out a TON of the above statements)
When someone says Hook abandoned Alice, just direct them there.. ok thanks…
