Like I said before, I don't have this extreme success rate anymore. Can you

For example: if I had a SPAM message and moved it to NewManuallyAdded to
process immediately (or report as usual to RebuildDB process at night), if
I try to mail analyze this message after I will not get a SPAM.
In the past, this was normal behaviour.
Can my SPAM/NOTSPAM/ERRORS folders be messing with HMM/Bayes classifiers ?

building complete training sets every time

And .... would the spam/ham content detection rate of an external AI be 
better than the detetion rate of the internal HMM (AI)?

A very good maintained and uptodate assp system can reach a content (word 
based) detection correctness of 99% and more. Is the effort of an external 
AI integation worth the <1%? Assuming the detection rate of the external 
AI would be 100%!

The BDB-caches are located in the tmpDB folder.
The __db.00x files can be removed if assp is down.

I have a VM that I run ASSP on, been working pretty much OK for a long 
time. A couple of days ago, it stopped and I'm trying to figure out why.

I restored the VM from a backup and it's running, but I kept the one 
with the problem so I can try and track down what happened in case 
there's a problem again.

The only thing I'm seeing in the log on the broken machine that I don't 
see in the working machine is log entries like the following:

Warning: unable to write cache of BerkeleyDB hash HMMdb to disk -  - 
BDB: (suppressed 2 concurrent equal 'warning' loglines from al?

Thank you Thomas for looking into this and guiding me in the right direction.
I now found that the Bayes confidence for such messages is below the threshold I set.
So I will try a lower setting of „Bayesian and HMM Confidence Threshold (baysConf)<javascript:void(0);>“ and see if results improve.

after reporting all of those mails to assp as spam, I get nearly all of them catched with HMM and/or Bayesian (scoring mode). But if they pass the penalty-box of assp for any reason, they are tagged as 'unwanted' 'MessageLimit' ' lowlimit'.
If I would set HMM/Bayesian to blocking mode, all of these mails would be blocked.
I don't see any other reliable option to combine the similarities.

These are basically job applications. These messages are harmless, but I don’t need them and there is no way to „unsubscribe“ or „opt-out“. The sender-domain always changes but the similarities between the messages are these:



  *   The recipient is always info@<mydomain>
  *   The subject line is always „<a job title> - <applicant’s name>“
  *   The first line in the mail is always „Sehr geehrte Damen und Herren,“
  *   The mail always has one PDF file attached, containing the application.
  *   The file name of that PDF is always like the subject line of the mail „<a job title> - <applicant’s name>“.pdf


As I said, these mails are clean and harmless, just unwanted. Obviously none of the points I listed is a good reason to block the message.  Does anyone have an idea how the combined set of similarities could enable ASSP to block these?

At startup initialization a clamd->ping() is done using the defined 
socket.
This is done before any user and/or group switching on nix systems - eg. 
in case the error is permission related!

The MainThread was able to write "PING\n" to the socket - but has'nt got 
any answer - in case the socket never became readable within the defined 
timeout (or 2 seconds)

If clamd can't be reached, assp tries to recover the clamd-connection the 
next time, such a connection is required (in each Worker).
But even any of the next connections is successfull in a Worker, the 
startup error is not cleared and still shown in the GUI.

In Standard-Mode of ScanLog, only warnings and error are logged.

So, it appears to be working. I changed ScanLog to verbose and I see 
entries in the log file like "ClamAV: scanned 3583 bytes in message - OK"
However, if I go to the assp server info page, and open up the perl 
modules list, I see the following:

My only question then concerns the top of the window on the home page.

It says, at the top, that I'm running 2.8.1 build 24261, and then right 
below it, in green, it states there's a new version available

If you run a prod version 2.8.1 but your assp tells you that a new dev 
version 2.8.2 is available, the current version file in the assp folder is 
incompatible to the running assp.pl - in case you switched in the past 
from a dev version back to an older or equal prod version.
Version upgrades by only upgrading assp.pl are supported and watched by 
assp - version downgrades (assp.pl only) are not - it's on you to check 
for possible incompatible changes!!!!!!!!!!

At the begin of the year 2012, the version numbering of V2 was changed - 
all assp versions before 2.0.2_3.3.01 and 2.0.1_3.3.01 will possibly not 
make any autoupdate after 2011/12/31!
The new version numbering will be:

FAMILY.MAJOR.MINOR_BUILD[.PATCH] 

where the BUILD number is build from the two digit year and the three 
digit day of the year. If there are more than one patches available for 
one day, a dot + PATCH number with one or two digits will be appended.
The MINOR number indicates: odd - production version , even - development 
version
The version number for the (2011/21/07) would be : dev - 2.0.2_11202 and 
prod - 2.0.1_11202

I had a similar problem the days around DST switching (27.10.2024).

I found some unhandled edge cases in the scheduler code (all are related 
to DSToff in october) - one of them leads in to an epoch value in the 
past, which causes scheduled tasks to run again and again.

If you see such an unexpected behavior, or you get warnings or errors from 
the scheduler about invalid values, stop assp - delete the file 
'scheduleHistory' and start assp.

I'm just testing the corrected code - the next version will fix this 
issue.

analyze such a mail and the analyzer will tell you, which line in the file 
causes the match

in my bombRe file it is line 493

subject\:.{1,40}(penny )?st[o0]cks?|cribsheet

• bombRe : 'highest match: "Subject: Re: Reorder check stock" with 
valence: 100 - PB value = 70'
 • matching bombRe(file:files/bombre.txt[line 493]): 
'subject\:.{1,40}(penny )?st[o0]cks?|cribsheet'
