One tiny criticism with ASSP that I have is that the units are often not specified for the settings, making things a bit confusing. Often don't know whether times are in seconds or minutes (or days!) - there seems to be no consistency throughout the app, so you can't safely guess. A very small thing given how good ASSP now is. > I'm still curious about the > rationale behind disabling local sender addresses if local recipient > addresses are being checked. Not sure what you are asking here. Verifying local senders uses the same data as verifying local recipients I beleive, it just requires you to turn it on. " Validate Local Sender Addresses If activated, each sender address with a local domain is checked against Local Addresses and/or LDAP. If Local Addresses and LDAP not exists, it will block all mails with local domains from the internet (spoofing). 0 = no check, 1 = check, 2 = log only, 3 = score only.. " If you don't do checking for local recipients, and don't have a local addresses text file or LDAP functioning, then turning on checking for local senders will block all incoming email from your local domain(s). Too easy!=20 Thanks for the help, it worked great, but I'm still curious about the rationale behind disabling local sender addresses if local recipient addresses are being checked. ...Tim =20 -----Original Message----- From: ass...@li... OK, I see that now. I am validating local addresses from a flat file. If I understand this correctly, then if I use Validate Local Addresses, then this feature won't work for me. If I misunderstand, please set me straight. If I do understand correctly, can you explain the rationale for this? I want to drop any incoming mail that is not to a valid local recipient *and* I would like to drop anything coming from outside claiming to be from a local address, whether it is valid or not. No one should be delivering mail from my local addresses except for me or my ISP, especially to me. ...Tim =20 -----Original Message----- From: ass...@li... My first mail seems to have hit the SF spam filter, so some bleeping is done here: =20 I'm using this regex (made by one of you) to catch some spam with the word *bleep* in it (the regex should make it obvious which word I mean )) =20 P+\s*?h+\s*?a+\s*?r+\s*?m+\s*?a+\s*?c+\s*?y+ =20 This regex catches a lot of variations but it also catches the correctly spelled word *bleep*. After figuring out that the error did not exist in 122.20 but does in 122.21 and 122.22, I tried 122.24 and there is still some trouble. While it is not doubling up the PB score, it is now not adding any PB score for invalid recipient, verified by looking into the blackDB and can be seen by the following log(PB score should be 25 each based on my config): May-30-06 18:13:14 Connected: 211.202.175.136:1382 May-30-06 18:13:15 211.202.175.136 <vo...@fa...> invalid address rejected: stanton@<mydomain>.com May-30-06 18:13:30 211.202.175.136 <vo...@fa...> invalid address rejected: stanton@<mydomain>.com May-30-06 18:13:30 211.202.175.136 <vo...@fa...> invalid address rejected: stanton@<mydomain>.com May-30-06 18:13:33 211.202.175.136 <vo...@fa...> is disconnected May-30-06 18:13:45 Invalid address rejected: stanton@<mydomain>.com <***** No IP # on line ***** and May-30-06 18:25:13 Connected: 66.76.61.85:56714 May-30-06 18:25:13 66.76.61.85 <> invalid address rejected: sr...@su... I removed Clamsmtpd from the equation and that seems to have taken care of it. Anyone else having issues W/ clamsmtpd? I verified the blockage to be removed by modifying a vbs script for windows cscript that will send smtp mail to include a do loop that counts to 400, thus spewing 400 mails in a very short time to an outside address specified. Here is the script if anyone is interested. Watch the line wrap on the comments: 'This script will spew 400 mails to the recipient specified through the server specified to test the SMTP functionality and speed of the smtp server. =20 'When sending to an outside host, you have to allow your IP to relay through your smtp server, if not already configured that way. objCount =3D 0 Do Set objEmail =3D CreateObject("CDO.Message") objEmail. From =3D "pdi...@fr..." objEmail. To =3D "pau...@gm..." objEmail.Subject =3D "stresstest" objEmail.Textbody =3D "push it baby." Went back to 1.2.1 final and seeing how that goes, although usually my exchange outgoing smtp connector sits damn near 0 in the queue and sends out mail immediately. Now it builds up to between 16-30 at times. Going to also try replacing sendmail w/ exim to see if perhaps something in sendmail is corrupt. -----Original Message----- From: ass...@li... > Without disabling Reversed Lookup, where can I list a domain or IP range > so that the mail will not be rejected due to a missing PTR record? ISP/Secondary MX Servers (ispip): is an IP whitelist that bypasses connection tests but still does content testing. Can be used for any known good email servers you never want to block like hotmail, gmail, yahoo, AOL, business partners, etc. This file is also commonly used for the NoDelay list for IP's you don't want delayed. Accept All Mail (acceptallmail): is an IP whitelist that bypasses connection and content testing and adds the the whitelist. It should be used for servers under your control and possibly business partner's servers. These are to the best of my understanding, Doug Traylor |
