yes it looks amazing. devs please keep this one
i don't care about consistency if it looks good it looks good if it's inconsistent it's dimorphism

Oh, wow. Yeah I don't like it :(
I second the opinion that it looks rather messy and would much prefer for the pattern to curve with the edges. Both for consistency reasons and personal aesthetic opinion.

I think it looks fine.

I agree it doesn't really match the pattern on the head fins though but aside from that I think it looks alright, just different.

I'll make a nice signature eventually :(
IMO the big difference between Snurges and the other breeds are just how much in and out you get if you're trying to follow the edges of the frills. On a wing, you'd get maybe a few dramatic sweeps and they'd be spaced fairly far apart. With Snurges, there are a lot of them that are very close together and the 'spine' part that sticks out has very little real estate to paint on. If you tried to follow those edges super closely, you'd basically have to either

A) make the pattern so small that it would be hard to even read what was happening and leave the vast majority of the frill completely plain, or

B) Keep the pattern at a reasonable size and completely neglect the points on the frills - since there wouldn't be room to take a larger pattern in and out.

What we have isn't too far off of B with just a little hint of the pattern starting to move out for each point before pulling back in and continuing on to the next hump - but we get more accent color at the tips. I think if anything, another band of the primary patterning going across the middle of the longer points could break things up a little - but no other breed has that and it'd likely not fly for consistency reasons.

Personally, I really like the way it looks on the head and tail frills. It does look a bit odd on the body frills, and while I wouldn't be heartbroken to see them follow the frill contour a little more in the interest of matching what other breeds have, I'd also totally understand why they wouldn't want to do that since it would mean shrinking the pattern down pretty drastically depending on how much they wanted the pattern to hug the curves. I don't hate what they have now - especially when compared to, say, Fathoms - where most of the wing is empty.

I kinda love it, it looks like a pattern you'd see on an old dinosaur illustration! I personally like having differences between breeds, yes that means you will like certain genes more on certain breeds but that's entirely the point; otherwise there's no real reason to pick a certain breed over another besides to fit a uma imo.

Did a quick mockup without the tail markings (as those look good as they are) and maybe I just drew it too wonky, but it could turn out worse than it is.

Knowing the track record of overcorrecting/creating new issues with gene fixes, I prefer Spinner stayed as it is. It's not the best version of this gene, but I like it more than Fathom's tiny patterns.

I like it. I really wish the head fins were bolder though... Like @/Teufela's example.
But I do not like this gene normally. It's a tiny, cluttered edge with a big, blank space on most breeds. It has never felt as organic and natural as the primary gene.
I think it might take creative liberties from consistency here. But that is a good thing to me. I'd actually prefer differences across species than strict uniformity.
I might even use this gene now on a Sandsurge. But that's just me.

I like the patterning, but it is so different that it is unrecognizable as "spinner". If all other versions were like this, it would be cool. As it is, it looks sloppy compared to the other versions. Since it is SO inconsistent, I think it should be changed.
I honestly really like it. I think it's definitely quite different from FR's usual style of genes, because this one reads to me like something I could see an actual wild animal having, with all of its wonkiness and stuff. It's neat! I do feel like the blank space on the fins looks a bit odd, although honestly I'm not sure how it would be fixed; making it the solid colour of spinner wouldn't be good, and liked others have said, cramming spinner into those tiny areas doesn't seem a great idea either. And of course, the headfins do seem to go for the old approach, which looks odd and should be fixed imo. (I was just about to buy some copies of spinner before realising it can be changed.. I will hold off my excitement for now).
this, it looks like natural patterns! which is awesome, and I think matches Skink way better

I love bugs, especially moths and mantises! And sharks as well :)

gene consistancy is something that's never particularly bothered me. i like seeing differences like these between breeds--gives me more to play with than just the silhouette.
