So in light of the Cirrus flair situation recently, and after looking through the Sandsurge gene expansion bug thread, I thought it'd be interesting to get people's opinions on Sandsurge Spinner.
What do you think about Sandsurge Spinner? Do you think it looks good as is? Do you wish it were more consistent with other versions of the gene? Would you be ok with it changing drastically after release for consistency?

It's considerably different from other versions of the gene, and one report on it has been addressed as working as intended but @/Lychen's new/current report points out that SS Spinner curves against the edges of the wings vs other instances that curve with them.

Working as intended
Spinner: The pattern bending around each spine is considered working as intended. Spine-for-spine pattern cutoff is not considered a pattern defect.

seems neat to me, and definitely something that was done deliberately by artistic choice instead of an accident. I like the uniqueness of it.

oh wow that looks awful :( wish they'd revisit that one but i get not wanting to

it doesn't look consistent -which is reason for a lot of changes- with other breeds nor itself. i don't enjoy looking at it, it looks messy, and it's looked better on breeds with strange wings like fathom or everlux

It looks fantastic! It reads as an informed and deliberate artistic choice that considers the physical structure of the spines/fins and the body. Gorgeous, the way you can see how the body curves under it.
Also it doesn't "curve against the edges." There's only one prominent instance in one pose where you could say that. The other poses DO curve "with" the edges, but it's just more subtle. Personally, I take it as natural variation and also a refreshing look that isn't simply a boring border to the edge of the wing.
The Sandsurge version is more interesting than the others. It looks very pleasing and organic, and I'd be much more inclined to gene up a Sandsurge with it than I would any of the other breeds.

eh, i dunno, personally i don't think it's my jam, i don't like how blobby the patterning looks and mainly how it's inconsistent to the head frills. tbh i don't think i've been vibing with the spread and distribution of spinner in particular on the newer breeds that get it, i personally feel it was executed better on the older breeds :\
maybe i'd like it more if the accent gradient went further into the wing to make it look a Bit more similar to the other iterations of the gene? the gradient existing outside the band of patterns is really weirding me out for some reason in a way that the other breeds don't showcase since the patterns normally conform closely to the edge..? i can't explain it!
Honestly I love it. I love Spinner in other breeds too, but this being inconsistent doesn’t bother me at all because IMO it looks cool. To my eyes it seems way more natural looking than having the pattern crammed in at the edges (glares at sandsurge Seraph) and it shows off the accent color way better, which is awesome to me. This way is also less like a slightly enhanced Basic- why would I ever give a Fathom Spinner when Basic works just as well for a very similar look? I desperately hope they don’t change it!!
EDIT: actually there is one thing that does bother me, which is the head frills (mostly on the male) having a different pattern. I do hope they fix that so it looks like it matches with the wings.
Edit edit: I’d also like to add that even if I did not like this pattern, I would not support changing it drastically post-release, because of the whole cirrus flair fiasco. But also I do like it and I will be very sad if they change it because as long as they don’t change it I will be eager to give it to my dragons! I’m not going to apply it yet in case it does change but the instant I feel safe doing so without worrying it’ll look completely different soon, I will be finding some dragons to show off those beautiful lizard patterns.

That looks super striking! Honestly, I wish that other breeds had that version of the gene, instead of the pretty basic one. Just fix the male headfins to match better. =)
If they really wanted it to be "consistent", the gene would take up half the space it does now. And that would be a Massive downgrade imo.
But I rarely gene surges, so those that like them better should probably be listened to instead~

I like it a lot. I think I like it more than on a lot of other breeds. I don't like the idea of changing it for "consistency" with other breeds. Different dragon breeds have different anatomy and genes should reflect those differences. If every dragon breed had the exact same expression of genes in spite of their unique anatomy, it would be boring to me.
