I can't help but feel like it'd look worse if it went against the edge of the crests. But as for the gene itself, I do notice that the lines are really thick compared to other breeds. I wonder if it would look more normal if they thinned the lines?

I would like either version if it was consistent between the wings and the head fans. Matching on the dragon itself is more important to me than matching with other dragons, especially for an Ancient (where you're not going to see them "with" another breed, because they can't crossbreed).
Overall, I like that genes can express differently within different breeds (the giant Batty wings on Sandsurge are great!); it feels realistic, in something of the same way that, say, both horses and rabbits can have point coloration but it doesn't look identical, because they're very different species.

Dragons currently available for adoption through Ashfall Rescue:
Personally I quite like it, it shows off more of the gene and looks more naturally occurring to my eyes! Maybe modify the head fans to match (if there's a lot of support and it's still early enough), but gene inconsistency across breeds I don't mind; I think it keeps them feeling fresh and creative, and biology wise it makes more sense to me that the patterns would vary

I don't mind it. I actually kind of prefer, in some cases, when genes aren't consistent throughout all the breeds. Though, I will say I actually like Spinner more on the female and hatchling poses, not so much on the male. But, I'd still probably use it if I found the right dragon for it.

The F and H poses look great, and I like how high-coverage it is, but the M pose looks sloppy and squished.

Skink/spinner was my jam, I'd always scry with skink, maybe less so with spinner. It's interesting that the newer versions are more.... big and blobby rather than sharp and crisp. I don't really think it looks good. But I was more of a fan of skink to begin with... and that's gotten all big and blobbly too.... Makes sense for luxes, doesn't look great on cirrus- they don't have the real-estate to feature big patterns like that, a busy narrow breed. And surges look like right between the two.
I dunno. I'm kind of conflicted. I don't really want to see them changed for consistency sake because that's kind of annoying, it seems like they're attempting a more natural looking marking and even though I don't particularly like it, doesn't mean someone else doesn't. It does also help distinguish that Surges DO NOT have wings so the marking makes sense to not necessarily behave like it's on a wing. They should be allowed to try something new from time to time, breeds should be allowed their own special inconsistencies on occasion.
At the same time... I.... do not like.

I like it, but I don't think it was just "rushed", it seems to me too that the spikes on sandies are just too thin and sharp to make spinner look like on the other breeds so it's better this way than having it minuscule around their sharp thin spikes.

This is my take on it honestly- I'm hoping to experiment with it eventually. It'd look honestly bad if it tried to do what Fathoms have imo with how spindly the points are.

NOOOOOOO SPINNER ON SANDSURGES IS EPIC. I swear if this gets changed, I'm going to have a conniption. Please please please let this be an artistic choice.

I don't think I would've minded it, had the current spinner not looked rushed. It looks worse than the other breeds, and simply confusing. I say this as someone who likes snurges, but that gene looks awful. Had it been done better and wasn't rushed, I'd say I wouldn't mind either version.
it looks really wobbly, and the tail is just... not good. Ik there are people out there who like it, and had it been done better I would've too, but I feel like they should either make it consistent, or make it look like it wasn't rushed.
