I love it! I do think the color display matches the others— it just seems more stark and full-coverage because of how they chose to handle the spikes of the fan, which I think is really neat! Same with Fathoms having a different way of showing off the gene than other moderns— it's handled in a very different way that looks different but still cool on both breeds.

I personally do not like it. The mockup Teufela made looks fantastic and I wish its was what the gene actually looked like. Different breeds "wear" the gene better, so if I want a dragon to have Spinner, I can just choose a different breed. I'm not forced to use Sandsurge's version of Spinner. There's others in this thread who enjoy the gene, and the design is not an error, so I don't see a purpose in changing it.

Love it, looks fantastic. I like variety in the expression of genes, and this version looks more like a natural animal pattern. Fathoms by contrast having so much blank space is a huge no for me—but others may prefer that!
I don't think it looks sloppy or unfinished, but I reckon if they were going to modify it in any way, they should probably just add the big thick line on the wing-fins to the head-fins for consistency's sake.

Hey, friendly reminder to drink water, stretch, and take a short break if you can. Stay healthy! Also, don't forget about any chores or tasks you might be putting off.
it looks very nice on the female and hatchling poses but the male pose is a bit too busy.

The outer lines surrounding the dots look a bit wobbly, that might be my only problem with it because I do like the approach to making it fit Sandsurge's frills as like an arc! I think the execution could've been a bit cleaner, but it's not the worst consistency offender in my opinion!
EDIT: I looked a little closer at the head frills, do not like the head frills lmao the wing frills I like, head frills I do not like, it's weird that even those are inconsistent on the same pose

The design looks a bit weird, and I do agree it appears unlike any other version of the gene, even on the same Sandsurge (just look how the skink/spinner adheres to the edges of the head fins. they did it there and then just... didn't for the rest of the dragon?) and I disagree that it is working as intended... though I'm not sure if it should be changed at this point. I'd be happy if it was acknowledged as "unintended inconsistency/mistake" instead of "working as intended" (it's not) but since a change would be too drastic at this point, it's going to remain unchanged.
I'm more bothered by the lack of Skink's leg patterns not fading more into the base color as they go up the legs, and the patterns along the body might be slightly too thick. It makes the pattern stick out way too much.

My mind is blown that people think this looks okay ;-; like I am glad some people see this and think positively... but like dang to me it looks like someone drew those fans with a mouse in under 5 minutes. It doesn't look remotely right to me, it's so wobbly and positioned with such little consideration for the fan shape. I can't see how this was possibly the deliberate choice for any reason other than intense time crunch or burnout. I am sorry I am glad to see some people like it but to me there is no positive way to say anything about how this turned out ;-;

shrug not my favorite iteration but honestly i think going different on the wings was the right call. if the design followed the edge of the wing the difference in pattern size between prim/sec would render them literally unrecognizable as a gene pair. or if both prim and sec leaned small, it’d throw off the ratio of the accent colors…so oddly enough i feel like being inconsistent actually helps it feel more consistent that strict consistency would…
do i wish the back fin patterning was a little pointier just to match with the breed/create more internal consistency? yeah but i don’t hate it
